Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Also one more thing I liked...
I also thought the integration into the MCU worked really well, much better then Age of Ultron. This might of been just because the only thing they needed to set up was Scott Lang's involvement with the Avengers rather then anything particularly Earth-shattering. But it worked well regardless and it didn't feel like it had to compromise it's main story to fit into the MCU.
On that subject Feige confirms
the new Wasp will have a "big role" in one of the upcoming Phase 3 movies.
If Marvel were still in the business of making One-Shots, I'd've loved for the next one to be one of Hank and Jan's adventures in the 60's. If they were to keep the "Cold War operative" angle, it could've even been the perfect opportunity to use some of his more blatantly Cold War enemies like the People's Defense Force, or Radioactive Man.
Though I'm guessing the next film will have Egghead or something instead. Much like this film is Batman Beyond, the next film could fulfill the prophecy and do Return Of The Joker with one of Hank's old enemies. (I'm joking, kinda).

IIRC Feige said something about reviving the One-Shots after their conspicuous absence from Phase 2.

You ever get so happy you just have no reaction?
Good news.

There were two one-shots for Phase 2 - Agent Carter, which came with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray, and All Hail the King, which came with the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray. Not sure why they stopped after that, except that perhaps they were concentrating their efforts on TV shows and movies instead of short films.
"So, I'm Ant-Man. What about you? Ant-Woman? Queen Ant?"
"I'm Wasp."
"Uh"
"Build me wings, nerd."
Probably because hers was a new model of suit. Hank kept using the original model and probably never had the chance to remodel it since he was kept busy.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJ: "What do you mean you didn't design your suit to fly? What if one day we have to catch a missile or something?"
H: "We can just get the ants to do it!"
J: "The ants..?"
H: "Yeah! Ants rule! They can lift fifty times their own-"
J: "Fuck that. Give me some wings."

May not be able to see the film till next week.
Also Washington Post did a rather interesting article on Marvel Studios and its relationship with directors
. Your thoughts?

Just finished watching Ant-Man, it was awesome.
It's nice to see the Marvel can still put out a movie without raising the stakes higher and higher. Sure there was the implication that very bad things could happen if the wrong people got their hands on shrinking technology, but the movie felt no need to try to one up Age of Ultron and it didn't have to. The final battle was entirely confined to a single bedroom, which was right for this movie.
I'm definitely glad they explicitly stated that Hope van Dyme was going to be the next Wasp. Even if we don't see her in the suit until Infinity War, we did get to see the suit and it's now just a question of "when" and not "if". I also noticed they were very careful to not rule out Janet van Dyme appearing later on, and avoided showing her face so they could cast her at a later time. Kind of makes me wonder if they are at least thinking of doing a dedicated Wasp movie with Ant-Man in a secondary role.
Also I thought it was a nice touch when Luis got the security guard supervisor he had tied up earlier out of the building before it was exploded. The guy was just doing his job and as far as the movie showed wasn't aware of how far off the deep end Daren Cross had gone. He didn't deserve to be exploded and then shrunk, potentially into the quantum realm, and he wasn't.
