Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I really liked that scene. Aside from it being Ant-Man's movie so he has to escape with the thing, both Scott and Sam come out looking competent. Sam in particular tanking several tiny bullet punches when most everyone else is only good for one or two.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersScott vs Sam is one of my favorite fights in the MCU. Not only does Scott both do well despite his obvious inexperience and find an innovative and exciting way to pull off the win, but Sam also doesn't come off looking the worse for being defeated by someone with far more Game Breaking abilities - he outright Curb Stomps Scott, and takes the defeat he does get pretty well. He gives a better fight than Yellowjacket, even.
Exactly. Considering that he doesn't have any other powers besides mechanical wings, Sam did pretty well trying to adapt to Scott's powers in a short span of time.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Gault: Look, I know that getting basic science right is a must for some people, and I respect that, but I don't think it's that big a deal. It's a Superhero movie; the genre isn't exactly known for hard science. (Seriously, The Flash would make you weep.) And not to mention, I went through High School, and I'm still not exactly sure just how the basic laws of mass work. Stuff like that isn't exactly something everyone's guaranteed to know, so don't expect them to.
Well, he does have a daughter in Ultron. Was that her name?
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectJust came back from Ant-Man, thought it was fun, looks like Troubled Production didn't seem to affect it at all, which makes me wonder if Edgar Wright was the problem, not Marvel.
Falcon jobbing to Scott was bullshit though.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Lesser known Marvel movies that probably won't happen
.
...I'd probably pay to see the Seth Rogen D-Man one, ngl.
kkhohoho,
I'm pretty sure that all fiction benefits from internal consistency. Given comic books' reputation in this regard, they might even disproportionately benefit from a renewed focus in this area.
Again, the problem isn't that it's unrealistic with regards to it's science. The premise itself of somehow making atoms' electron orbits cease to intersect to an arbitrary extent- even up to and past the size of atoms themselves which by this method should be impossible. The problem is that it treats the fantasy rules it made up with opportunism, applying them selectively and ignoring them in other cases.

yeyI'm pretty sure the warp drives in Star Trek worked however the writers wanted them to work, exactly like the Pym Particles or the Speed Force.
The only thing you appear to be objecting to is that they included a semi-scientific explanation which doesn't really explain anything. So the better explanation would be: it works because magic.

It didn't bother me.
Pretty sure it won't bother most people.
I am a bit perplexed that Ant-Man got a more Lexxy Lex Luthor than Superman v Batman
Forever liveblogging the AvengersTHE MIRCOVERSE IS IN ANT MAN. DUDE I JUST SAW THE WORLD BUILDING FOR THINGS LIKE DR STRANGE AND IRON FIST. OTHER DIMENSIONS ARE CONFIRMED!!!!!!! REALITIES BEYOND HUMANITY'S CONCUSSION!THE COSMIC MAGIC REALM IS COMING TO LIFE GUYS!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAH
anyway... i really love how naturally this movie followed up after Age of Ultron without coming off unattached or a shoehorned response. it amazes how marvel connects plot points this naturally in live action, yet the comics can never seem to get that far.
also Cross was pretty interesting. he didn't exactly start off bad. he was in the process, but we didn't see the life he had before the movie via flashbacks. he was... a more serious justin hammer i guess
thirdly, i love how mundane the overall movie was. sure if hydra got their hands on Pym Paratlices then an Avenger tier hero would have to save the world, but the movie was about an everyman dealing with threats beyond his experience. he doesnt fight for the world but his daughter. he doesnt hang out with captain america but a bunch of hoodlums who would probably pay money just to touch captain america's hand. he doesnt live in a mansion but a standard family sized house. he isnt the rich CEO of some big organization but a father looking for a job. in this sense, Ant Man is more mundane than previous movies in the MCU.
fourthly, the humor is refreshing because we are dealing with new personalities in what would be considered the street world of superheros rather than the global and galactic side. its presented from the preservative of people who dream of being an avenger, so now the two worlds are connecting. everything has been leading up to this collusion. i'm curious to see the result
fifthly wooooooooooooooooooooooooow the action was pretty original and inattentive. cgi never felt out of place either!
character wise hope was the only one who was meh from the main cast. in the begging that is until she opened up more. however that was more of the actress fault. had to do with her preference though i believed it was intentional to create an unlikable response from the audience. it was like i was watching the actress learn how to play her role, while the character was learning what a superhero really means
i was gonna have a problem with dave because he wasnt adding anything until the middle. luis stole the show from the supporting cast. he was basically scott's foggy lol. meanwhile dale added the computer hacker competent. together they balance out the seriousness of scott's life, but scott is pretty optimistic and buoyant to begin with.
lastly, i am curious to know what hydra is doing and did anyone catch the SPOILER tattoo?

Although at that point why NOT have variable intangibility?
I mean, if you go full intangible, you're not going to breathe, because the air doesn't go intangible with you.
