Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Exactly. He still has story credits, he just didn't direct it.
Going by what I posted in the same post as the Ancient One news, not much changed after Wright left but some stuff got expanded into bigger things(like Hope who got some more stuff to do(her actress was going to leave the movie after Wright left but stayed after Marvel promised her some more scenes)) and some new stuff(that I'm guessing is the stuff tying the movie to CW and the larger MCU)got added. It doesn't seem like anything that was already there was dropped(the tone might've changed since Feige said they wanted the movie to have a Gotg type of feeling to the humor and tone which it didn't seem like the original script had).
Edit: Just rewatched Edge Of Tomorrow. Can we get Emily Blunt in the MCU as Phyla-Vell? Please?
Edit2: Apparently Avengers was toppled a while back and is now no longer in the top 3.

The Word of God about Wright's draft is that it was largely the same, but the flashback stuff with the Wasp wasn't there and Hope's role was much smaller. I think Adam Mckay also confirmed the subplot with the Falcon was something he added after Wright walked as well.
Will be seeing ant-man for Thursday night screening tonight.

Watch SymphogearNothing is wrong with Benedict Cumberbatch. Which is, strangely, a problem for some people who didn't want the "obvious" choice for the role. Because it is somehow bad to pick an actor who is a perfect fit. (I am still hoping that they make Dr. Strange British, so that we get to hear his most arrogant, posh accent).
Basically the same stuff he's been saying. "Women haven't gotten to be the lead in any of our films but we still make good female characters in our White Man movies so you should stop complaining about that."
If you go with the obvious choice, everyone complains about Benedict Cumberbatch being Strange. If you go with something unexpected, everyone complains about Ben Affleck being Batman.
You can't win with audiences. It's not worth the effort to try.

Well, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis were the best part about those movies anyway.
As for Feige: eh, what else is he going to say? I mean, I doubt completely that he would ever admit, "Yes, we have a representation problem with women in our films. Hey, did you also realize that we have no LGBT characters either?" He's never going to say that, so he tries to spin the question in a way in which it looks fine.
Which is exactly what all film executives do.
(Although I do like him saying, "Everybody's opinions are valid." Nice backpeddling!)

Chris Evans pre-First Avenger was seen as baffling; even I was confused. I recall this video
before its release, which has the only guy happy for Evans be a gay lobster hand.
His performance in Fantastic Four was also divisive between "annoying", "great", and "great at being annoying". Only so much you can do with a script that kept ordering its leads' clothes lost.

I don't know about Hemsworth, but Chris Pratt was "the Parks and Recreations guy?" when he was first cast.
And let's not forget the controversy over Idris Elba as Heimdall.

I guess Samuel L Jackson would have been, but him turning up as Nick Fury was a surprise, so nobody had the opportunity to comment on it. But if I remember correctly, Norton getting replaced was a sore point for some people (well, I guess other than those who weren't really into Norton in the role), Scarlet Johannson was considered too small, Chris Pratt was "this cubby guy from Parcs and Recs", David Batista was "this Wrestling guy who most likely can't act", Jeremy Renner "the guy from this Borne movie nobody liked" (not that anybody really cared about Hawkeye anyway), RDJ the guy who might not even finish the movie because of his drug problems...I think Chris H. didn't really get any crap, but that was mostly because everyone was busy complaining about "Padme as yet another love interest" and "Why is Heimdal black?" And I think Zoe Zaldana was meet with approval, and Chad Boswick seems to be a popular choice, too. But otherwise it would be impossible for Marvel to cast anything if they tried to listen to the fans.
Generally, the moment casting announcements are made, the complaints start up. Then they continue until the film comes out and vindicates all the casting decisions made.

x5: The complaining about Elba as Heimdall should be tossed to the lowest levels of the "whining about casting" discard pile. Because, far as I can tell, it was "he's not like that in the Norse myths!" Well, no shit, this isn't based off the ancient myths it's based off the superhero comics. The film is an loose adaptation of a looser adaptation.
Seeing Heimdall in Seige (Or: Osborn Loses It and the Sentry Loses More of It) threw me for a second
"Why are you white, Heimdall? What's going on with you right now?" before I remembered he's different in the comics.
