Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Not a fan of him either but decided to watch it anyway. Basically he likes it a lot and considers it to be a good Breather Episode to close Phase 2 off. Interestingly he compares it to the first Iron Man in scope and style, which sounds very promising to me. He also likes Michael Pena's character a lot, which I've seen other reviewers also praising, so chances are he's going to be the film's Ensemble Dark Horse.
Oh, that's interesting
. One of the stingers for Ant-Man is an actual clip from Civil War, similar to what they did with the stinger for The First Avenger being part of The Avengers proper.

I'm going on Friday because we get it a day early.
"It's done," she revealed when asked about her talks with Marvel. "We're so far in talks that we’re not talking any more. It's done. The conversation has been had."
She added that she "just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character. I'm a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. The idea of playing The Ancient One is really just too tickling. I can’t say no to that!"
"Listen, I read the existing drafts. I had my reactions to it," said Reed. "There were elements of it that I love and thought were fantastic, and elements that I thought could be deepened and strengthened. It happened to coincide at the point where Adam Mc Kay had signed on to co-write the screenplay with Paul. I'd known Paul and Adam for some time and never had a chance to work with them, so it just made sense across the board to me. Knowing Marvel, you know that they have a system in place to do this like nobody else can these days. I knew I was going to be supported by an amazing team of visual effects people, so — listen, I jumped at the chance."

Dang it, I was gonna post how Tilda Swinton was definitely going to be the Ancient One in
"Doctor Strange", but ya beat me to it.
Let me see what're her references...
(Googles Tilda Swinton...)
Whoa, she's the White Witch from The Chronicles Of Narnia! That's pretty freaking awesome.

I thought this was interesting. Age of Ultron was all about legacies; what the heroes leave behind, so by the time Civil War comes around they have something to really fight for

Regarding the discussion about Miss America from the Lego Avengers game, they'll be redoing her skin and hair to make them more accurate
.
...Why the heck did they make her white with brown hair in the first place?
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say Critical Research Failure is the most likely culprit. Somebody was probably in charge of character designs and only vaguely remembered Miss America Chavez. Probably skimmed some pictures of her with a bunch of other obscure characters and then her outfit stuck out in the person's mind more than her skin and hair did.
Which is funny because her heritage should be evident from the last name "Chavez" but if a person were to just look at the name "Miss America" they might automatically assume it's a white person, because "Heterosexual White Man" is regrettably still considered the default state of a person.
So I bet there were a few images with the name "MISS AMERICA" on top of them during character development and a lot of work went into getting the outfit right.
EDIT: She might also have been conflated with American Dream, the second 2099 Captain America, or any other Distaff Counterpart White Girl Cap. Miss America is not a Distaff Counterpart of Captain America but between her name, relative obscurity, and spangly outfit, that's an honest mistake to make.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That honestly happens a LOT to Affirmative-Action Legacy characters since the colorists seem to often mistake them for their (usually white) predecessors.
Note that it seems like the fan backlash wasn't the thing that made them decide to change it quickly but the author of Young Avengers calling them after having all his fans tell him did it.
Marvel probably doesn't want the guy behind one of their top best selling books of the year(Darth Vader)to be angry at characters being represented wrong.

Moviebob? I don't really care for him, but what does he say about the movie?
