Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So other than everyone simultaneously agreeing that AOU was terrible, does anyone still have a link to some of the scenes that were cut out of AOU?
Nobody is "simultaneously agreeing" that AOU was terrible and you know it. I, for one, think it was really good. I just don't think Joss Whedon owes anyone anything - he made the movie, he released the movie, that's all he was contracted to do. If he wanted to make a Director's Cut, he would, but he doesn't.
In any case, he doesn't like Director's Cuts, probably for all the reasons listed in this song
.

I liked Ao U fine, but I admit that it could really have benefited from some extra room to breathe. Here's hoping we still get an Extended Edition, because the film could really use it.
The "language" gag have barely anything to do with Cap's characterization. Seriously, I don't know why people keep bring it up to complain about how Steve was portrayed in the movie. The gag was about the other characters. It is them who kept bringing it up. Captain America said it one time and the rest of the cast dragged it on for the rest of the movie. The rest of the cast, not Rogers.
You can say the gag is not funny and dragged it to long. But that gag didn't say anything about Cap's character because the gag wasn't about him in the first place.
I don't mind the language gag, but I also didn't think that it was particularly funny until the very end when Fury concluded it.
Well, I watched Age of Ultron twice, and the second time around, when I was less overwhelmed, it was obvious that there were pieces missing. It is naturally possible that there is only a ton of more Bruce and Natasha (hopefully not), but I think some of the places in which something was cut were: In the Ship scene...the cut from the visions to the twins seeing Bruce to him destroying the city is very sudden. Thor's vision quest...honestly, what was the point in him collecting Selvig when Selvig has nothing to do whatsoever while Thor is in the pool? And most obvious: Ultron's talk with Natasha. There is a strange cut and then he suddenly starts monologing for no reason at all. I am pretty sure that the dialogue was originally longer and that she goaded him into revealing his plan, more or less repeating what she did to Loki in The Avengers.
Did I mention that what mostly dragged the movie down for me was Brutasha? I think I did (multiple times) but it bears repeating: THAT was a stupid idea and very badly executed.
Oh, and, btw: Did Marvel want the Pool scene specifically, or did they just want that Thor is up to speed with Thanos lurking around? Because if they actually wanted the latter part, well, there would have been easier ways to include that in the movie. Like, you know, Asgard getting news about what was going on in Xandar.
Now again, does anyone know or have a list of possible deleted material, or an article confirming it exists, or unused parts of the script? I would really like to see it.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
It sounds like the hallucination
. Whedon said the studio didn't want to pay Tom for a cameo so they went with Idris Elba, but then at the last second they got Tom back.
Idris Elba mentioned that he shot with Hiddleston so it sounds like they were both supposed to have been in the hallucination scene.

Oh, so there's not going to be an Age of Ultron Extended Cut? Great! That means I can change my stance from "The theatrical release sucks, but maybe the Director's Cut fixes things?" to "This movie sucks."
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Uh, and I guess I'll just stand over here and go "Hey this movie was pretty good"?
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYou can say the gag is not funny and dragged it to long. But that gag didn't say anything about Cap's character because the gag wasn't about him in the first place.
It did say one thing about Cap's character: that he's been developing modern sensibilities since his time in the ice.
It said that because even Cap knew to be sheepishly embarrassed for Cap after he said that. First with his, "I know, it just slipped out," backpedal and then his later, disdainful "That's not going away any time soon."
Despite the complaints that it was a regression of his characterization, I thought his complete refusal to even try to justify it aptly demonstrated how he's developed in the modern world.
I posit that people hate fun
As supporting evidence for this theory, I offer the following examples from the first film:
- The controversy over Captain America's line, "There's only one God, ma'am, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that," with accusations that Joss Whedon - a devout humanist who once referred to the Christian god as "Sky-Bully" - is trying to force Christian themes on the audience.
- The controversy over Thor's, "He's adopted," verbal surrender when he realized he was arguing from an indefensible position..
- The mountains of speculation that cropped up from Hawkeye's line, "You and I remember Budapest very differently," in which people attempted to come up with one theory after another for how this statement taken out of context would be literally true because one of the two had been brainwashed, mind-controlled, etc. to forget Budapest.

I join you...if not for the stupid romance, I would have given it place four of my favourite Marvel movies, ahead of The Avengers. With the romance it still gets place five or six, so everything is well. It certainly doesn't belong in the Thor movies/Iron Man Sequels/The Incredible Hulk pit of mediocrity.

"Thor, why did you have me come with you?"
"I feel weird to be shirtless if no one is admiring my abs."
"Uh"

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI just assumed he took Selvig because buddy system. You don't want to be alone if shit goes south.
- On the drive over
- THOR: Alright, so I might start thrashing uncontrollably. Your job is that if I start having violent seizures and then my heart stops, you're to revive me.
- SELVIG: ...you realize I'm not that kind of doctor.
- THOR: There are different kinds?!

Ultron was never really treated as a threat. It felt like he was just like a really annoying fly that wouldn't go away.
My various fanfics.
