Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, seriously! Who the hell forgot to tell Carol that Mar-vell was dying?
Anyway, Carol should start a band: Marvel and the Marvels
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBut look at all the X-Men that were in attendance!
Geez, after everything its surprising Carol has good relations with anyone in the marvel universe.

It was all a misunderstanding, you see. The Avengers talked to the X Men and assumed they would pass the message, since Carol was with them at the time. But the X Men thought for sure the Avengers would like to say this kind of stuff personally, so they refrained from commenting. At the time of the funeral, it was quite awkward when everyone realized no one invited Ms Marvel.
...Goddamn it, I wish I wasn't so brainfried, because I love a good Eddie Izzard reference chain.
My various fanfics.Someone asked if the LEGO figure of Ms. America in the new game has her usual skin colour or not: This is her from a issue ago.
This is her from Young Avengers.

Whedon on Director's Cut and scenes missing that were in trailers.

UGH!
"It has always been my ambition never to do a director’s cut of anything and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make," said Whedon. "'Ultron' was very complex. There was a lot of back-and-forth. My instinct is no. Just as an artist, I’m super fucking lazy and that sounds like it would be hard. I don’t think there’s interest in it, right now. You’ll see a bunch of stuff on the DVD in extras that were meant to be there."
no directors cut... seriously the result of so many things being cut made the final film inconsistent and off pace

Whedon never said there was going to be a director's cut, however. He's been pretty adamant on never having a director's cut for any of his movies.
I mean, there were a ton of scenes cut out of the first Avengers and he didn't make a director's cut there either. So he's been pretty consistent on that aspect.
Also, I would hate to have Avengers go all Lord of the Rings and have them release some super special edition that is three and a half hours long.
I honestly never thought Whedon would be involved with the supposed "extended version", so there's every possibility Marvel might go ahead without him.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. He did say that there would be deleted scenes on the DVD/blu-ray (much like there were deleted scenes on the Avengers DVD/blu-ray).

But then Marvel can't claim that it's the "director's version," because it's not. It's just an extended version. And they may not want to do that in order to maintain a friendly relationship with Whedon - he's not working for them now, but he may do something for them later.

Extended editions are the best way to show deleted scenes. It shows the scene in the context it was meant to be in and how it affects the presentation of the rest of the film. And, in a world that has stuff like Netflix, means it'd be more likely for people to actually see those scenes, since you don't get the bonus features when streaming.
Captain Marvel Scribe Talks Strong Female Characters and the Pressure of Writing Marvel’s First Female Superhero Movie
So I just watched Age Of Ultron and was kind of disappointed. Ultron is interesting, but his insanity feels just... cheap, you know? He reminds me of Uchiha Sasuke at his worst, constantly shifting his goals to further and further evil with seemingly very little prompting.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Urgh....not that I don't get where he is coming from. Most directors cut are just a quick cash grab. But there are exception to the rule. The only was I would ever buy I Legend is if I get an edition with the original ending. And with Age of Ultron, I want an edition which entails the movie as it was in theatres as well as how it was before it got cut down to this length. I don't want deleted scenes, because they are pretty much worthless if they aren't shown in context. I want the movie I could have seen in theatres. And to be honest, it feels kind of petty if Whedon is now campaigning to keep it from the fans. I would get it if he were fighting against having two versions of the movie on the market and instead insisting on every edition having both versions on it, to avoid it just becoming a cash grab. But this feels very tone deaf. He should know that those people who liked Age of Ultron are really interested in seeing his vision.
It's heavily implied that Ultron's insanity is the product of mutually-exclusive purposes for his existence. Thanos's AI in the scepter gave Ultron the directive to wipe out the Earth and either prepare for Thanos's coming or return to him with the Mind Gem. Stark's programming gave Ultron the directive to protect humanity. Ultron is the product of both of these directives operating simultaneously, resulting in his desperate struggle to reconcile the concept of saving the Earth by annihilating it.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
You repeat that every that every time the issue comes up and, frankly, I agree with you. I really like that interpretation because of how much sense it makes. It ties Thanos appearance to the main plot perfectly and fully explain Ultron's erratic behavior and shifting motivation. That being said, I disagree this was "heavily implied". Yes, now that you have said it, I can't unsee it, but at the time I was in the theaters, that didn't cross my mind at all and, from the look of it, the same apply to many, if not most, viewers. I think you are right, but I also think the movie did a poor job conveying it.
I mean, if its otherwise, Thanos saying 'gawd fine, I guess I'll do a thing personally' doesn't make any sense. He has to be involved with the Ultron biz in a way that he considers his defeat an impetus.

New Ant-Man TV spots.
I think that's because in general Kid Sidekicks are kind of a dead trope at this point. He was going to be in the Incredible Hulk movie, though.
