Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Then why do it? They knew Amazing 3 was coming after. They must have had some plan for that before they actually made the movie.
I understand that but there's a big gap between when they decide the plotline of a movie and when they actually make it. During that time they'd probably start thinking about potential sequels and they'd realize they might want to keep Gwen around. It's not like keeping her alive would require too many alterations to the script. Goblin killing her was pretty tacked on.
I like the idea of Gwen Carnage, in part because I like Anti-Villains and/or Driven to Villainy characters who used to be legitimate friends of the hero(es) (Two-Face ftw), and also because I'm not a huge fan of Cletus Cassidy. I think it would've been a neat way for Spectacular to do a "something bad happens to Gwen" arc without actually killing her, for instance - mostly because Greg Weisman is one of the few people I would trust with an arc like that.
But I wouldn't trust the Amazing series with it. Especially if the plot would "Peter does some mad-science to bring is dead loved ones back to life, and accidentally turns his girlfriend into the next Big Bad! Drama!"
Which of course, it (probably) wasn't anyway. I wouldn't want someone coming into the thread just now and assuming the information we got had anything to do with Carnage.

Might be. It is just it took a momment for me to recognize her. The combination of light skin with uncharacteristic facial expressionnote threw me off.
About Gwen Carnage. In the comics that whole thing was basically an Author's Saving Throw to have Gwen back as her death was pointless and stupid. I am against this kind of thing on principle, as those stories often cause more harm than good in comics, but that time it went relatively well. That plot point in specific was not good, but it wasn't terrible either and it didn't actually cause needless confusion. That said, if the movie went with the same mindset (i.e. unmake a previous stupid decision) I doubt it would have gone as seamless as this would likely have to be a major focus in the story.

I posted something yesterday that seemed to get lost amongst all the Quesada-bashing, so here it is again.

Make mine Marvel.Making him sidekick to a Captain Marvel would sure be a continuity nod
I'm not sure why they'd bother to adapt Rick Jones though

That is not true. Even if these are the only "standard" skin colors, they still make custom ones for specific characters. That is how we get all these multicolored characters from Marvel. And it is not just for unnatural skin colors. Take a look in the Jurassic World set
. I counted at last 4 different realistic skin tones.
I kinda pity Rick Jones. He was everybody's sidekick in the early Marvel days and was a major part of Hulk's origins. Now he is all but forgotten. I wouldn't mind he making at last a cameo in one movie. Having him in Captain's Marvel supporting cast would be fitting.

I'll never forgive Rick Jones for the Teen Brigade
Not even inexplicably giving them guns and making them anarchists in the Avengers year one-esque miniseries can make them less of a hilariously stupid concept.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey should try to have him in Captain Marvel. He has history with the book and not having him in it in any way would be sort of sad.
◊ Even doing a Dr. Blake joke like Thor did would be fine.

Something that's going to be an interesting watch for comicbook readers is if they adapt Mar-Vell dying(if he's in the movie(which he kind of has to unless Carol's powers, costume(which is a big homage to her old friend both in the symbol and the colors) and very origin is completely different)he probably will)because in the comics Carol didn't know
◊ Mar-Vell died until months later
◊(pretty much everyone else was there
◊).
