Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Though it's still very America-centric (Wakanda will likely change it a little at least) I will say the movies do a much better job than the comics at not having every goddamn thing take place in NYC.
Also apparently Lash
will be the villain of Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD.

The best part of World War Hulk was pretty much everyone agreeing that the Illuminati deserved to get hulk punched in the face
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHmmm.
- Iron Man: mostly takes place in California/Afghanistan
- Incredible Hulk: mostly takes place in Brazil/Virginia/New York
- Iron Man 2: California and...where was the Expo being held? Probably still California, right?
- Thor: New Mexico/Asgard
- Captain America: The First Avenger: New York/Europe
- The Avengers: Uh, the Helicarrier, I guess/New York
- Iron Man 3: Lots of places, including New York?
- Thor: The Dark World: London/Asgard
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Washington, DC
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Space? And I guess Xander.
- Avengers: Age of Ultron: New York/Wakanda/Sokovia
So there's still a lot taking place in New York, but not as much as the comics.
Oh wait:
- Agents of SHIELD: eh, not really.
- Agent Carter: All of it is set in New York.
- Daredevil: All of it is set in New York.

That was South Africa in AOU and the expo in IM 2 was in upstate New York but otherwise yeah.
Some talk about the Wasp
. Apparently the character wasn't in Edgar Wright's drafts at all.
Its been pointed out that he's not shown much interest in female characters.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Actually good events with both a good main book and good tie-ins being rare to find: Should I bring up Cosmic Marvel from 2004-2011? There are multiple good reasons for why MCU Cosmic Marvel seems to draw more from that period than Bendis current time.
Edit: ![]()
I think Whedon called it "the most amazing script he had ever seen" about a year ago along with Brian Michael Bendis IIRC. I think he liked that it wasn't as much of a comedy as the current MCU movies sometimes morph into? More of a character piece/study with a more serious tone like WS turned out to have? We've heard nothing aside from reactions to it.
Also, the new Ant-Man movie doesn't have Wasp either. Feige has said that's something that will happen in future films. This movie has Janet dying/lost to the Quantic Realm and introduces Hope who will be Wasp in a decade and a half.

I honestly have no idea...because he is Edgar Wright? But he had the opportunity to make his vision and didn't because he deemed other projects as more important. I rather take a director who doesn't have his reputation but is with the project with all his heart. That's why I was actually glad when negotiations with Ava didn't work out, too. She doesn't strike me as a woman who would truly be invested in a Marvel project.
As for why folks were so excited for Edgar Wright...
It's also based on a graphic novel series Edgar Wright didn't create! The premise of which is kind of glued to female characters.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Well he did turn Ramona's relationship with Roxanne into 'just a phase' when in the books they're still on good terms and apparently made out a little even though Ramona was dating Scott at the time? Geez, Ramona.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, Ramona's characterization was super-wonky in the film, mostly because Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays lines that were supposed to be lighthearted jabs as withering putdowns, which makes her dynamic with Scott seem...not fun.

We All Live in America. Especially the Marvel universe.
