Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

@higherbrainpattern: I'll have you know that I was mistaken for a 30 year old man while in high school. Nobody ever believed me when I told them my age.
Dawson Casting is, believe it or not, not all that unrealistic.

It may just be that prosthetic arms are too expensive to mass-produce.
Fringe had a character with a highly advanced robotic arm, but the arm was powered by what was essentially a miniature nuclear warhead, so it made sense why no one else had it.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It's also the fact that it's hard to really act with only one hand, even if the other hand is prosthetic. You end up just putting a glove on the other hand and then trying not to move it and then you get continuity errors and stuff.
Better to give him a robotic arm, put a glove on it, and then Clark Gregg doesn't have to do anything else. Aside from occasionally tune it up, like Nebula did in Guardians of the Galaxy.

I mean in that case you've got to wonder why anyone bothered producing just the one.
Eh. Fair. I know what a bitch turnaround time on TV episodes is.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. In Fringe the woman in question (Nina Sharp) was the head of a large company that produced technology of all kinds. Her robotic arm was essentially a custom-made prototype of sorts made only for her.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."A piece on Chadwick Boseman's casting
.
Also the Atlanta Filming Twitter is saying Spider-Man has a scene with Vision and Scarlet Witch in Civil War.

I will never, ever believe him if he refuses to do a film because they're not offering him enough money. First War Machine, I can't help but feel Iron Man would be next.
He literally is the most expensive superhero In-Universe and probably for the effects necessary to put him on screen.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Ant-Man spoilers from a interview: It seems like the Microverse has been renamed to the Quantum Realm in the MCU and the third act is Ant-Man(not said if it's Hank or Scott but probably Hank since they talk about a self sacrifice type thingy)has to save his daughter from there by shrinking a lot. I wonder if you need the suits to breath in the Quantum Realm like you do with normal MCU!shrinking?

Terrence Howard, the original actor for "Rhodey", War Machine, left the franchise after the first film (funny enough, he specifically says "next time" in the first Iron Man film, while looking at the proto-War Machine suit). Don Cheadle portrays War Machine/Rhodey in all subsequent films.
The rumor was that Howard left because he wasn't offered enough money.

Well, back then it was reasonable because RDJ career was pretty much down the drain. Marvel has learned a lot since those first movies.
I also don't think that they will ever replace an actor for a character again, unless it is someone very insignificant, or someone like Groot or Rocket, or they have a really, really good reason to do so. They have so many characters, they can afford to write them out of the story.

Deep down, I knew it was never gonna happen, but I thought it'd be cool if Coulson kept the stump, or at least had a "realistic" prosthetic hand.
I mean, I guess losing a limb is no longer a big deal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or SHIELD is useless.
Also c'mon. Coulson, as a Fan of the Past, would totally choose something less technologically advanced just because he liked the aesthetic.
