Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Rumor is they're going to turn Redwing into a remote controlled drone, which comes from a site with a spot-on track record for its previous batch of rumors. A lot of people were already predicting this beforehand so it's not that surprising.

The Infinity Gems are Space, Time, Power, Mind, Reality, and Animal-Chatting.

And that's how we get Squirrel Girl!

Ants don't communicate verbally. They communicate thru a variety of organic chemicals

Probably why Assemble Ant-Man realizes pheromone mists instead of warbling through a helmet.

[up][up]Oh no....they gave him a metal hand....I was somehow hoping for them being creative and giving him a "normal" looking hand which has all sorts of gadgets hidden in it. It would fit the character so much better, totally "normal" until you look beneath the surface.

I wish I had talent with making music videos. I kinda want to make a Daredevil video set to Billy Joel's "Innocent Man".

...I have no idea how they would even do that, though. A normal looking flesh and blood hand? Or a robot hand that looks normal? I mean, now I'm thinking of Inspector Gadget and that's just...no.

[up]If they can create Vision they can create a normal looking hand.

[up]Frankly, Spider-Man's a way more interesting character to me, than, like, 3/4ths of the Avengers. I'd be happy if they downplayed the Avengers after Infinity War to focus more on Spider-Man.

[up] Not to me. Or lots of other people cool

If they did that, all post-Infinity War movies would earn even less money than The Amazing Spider Man 2.

Based on what the word is in regards to their approach, the upcoming Spidey movie is going to be the film Spider-Man has needed but never actually gotten ever since the beginning. If anyone can do Spidey well, it's Marvel Studios.

I'm really looking forward to the MCU Spidey. It's been five movies already, and we still haven't gotten a Spider-Man who's quite right. And there hasn't been a single MCU movie I've disliked so far (besides Age of Ultron, which wasn't a bad movie so much as it collapsed under its own weight, and the Extended Cut is probably fine), so there are pretty good odds I'll be happy with this one.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

It will at least be interesting to see an actual babyfaced teenager play the role of Peter Parker than someone who is almost 30.

Like, Maguire was the least convincing Peter for me for this very reason. At least Garfield sort of looked the right age.
