Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Perhaps she wanted Chtalla to have a speaking pet panther...

I hope it's not because Marvel wanted to do the Hudlin run.

I don't think anyone ever said anything like that. In fact Feige's description of it being about Wakanda stepping into the broader world sounds more like something out of Priest's anyway.

I know. I'm just being a ridiculous pessimist. The unlikely worst case scenario is all of Priest's run is saved for Civil War, then his solo movie is written and directed by Hudlin.

[up]I have the feeling that the Black Panther movie will show how he looses his father, has to fight for his country and then takes up the mantel of the leader - or his sister does. Kind of an origin story after the character already is a hero.

Yup. And they already mentioned part of Civil War is him coming to America after Ultron used Klaue's vibranium that was stolen from Wakanda, so that sounds like an interesting set up.

[up] That is rad. Somebody should tweet that to Frank Grillo, bet he'd love it.

(Seriously, Grillo is so enthusiastic about playing Crossbones that it's kinda infectious. I've not read many stories about the character, but I'm stoked for his next film appearance just because of it.)

Hey! I liked the Hudlin run. It was some of the funniest writing in comics I'd ever seen.:P

I'm really looking forward to black Panther and Ant-Man looks cool... although I'm disapointed that Hank Pym won't be in the role.

[up]It's the same one in AOU and Civil War. Also way to spoil it after they went out of their way to change it not to.

Guess this backs up all the other spoilers from the guys who claimed they saw the early screening.

[up][up][up][up]To mark spoilers you write "[[spoiler/:" before the text and then end the section you want to hide with "]]". Just take out the "/".

[up][up] Falcon has the ability to talk to his pet bird Redwing and also other birds in the comics.

Between him and Ant-Man they can practically spy on the whole globe.

I can talk to birds too.

They just usually don't say much back except tweets and chirps.

Maybe the tech Scott uses to talk to ants can be adapted to give Sam the ability to talk to birds.

With Ant-Man his ant speak appears to be electronic mimicking of basic ant speech, while bird speech would likely be more complicated. There's also that the origins of Falcon's bird speech has a pretty confusing Cosmic Cube origin and that Winter Soldier had more than enough to cover beyond "oh yeah and I can talk to birds."
