Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's weird to think of many of Batman's female supporting cast is queer in one way or another. Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, all three Catwomens, Batwoman, Renee Montoya. Batgirl, Talia Al Guhl and Spoiler are the only prominent strait female characters I can think of. And weirdly, I'm not sure I can name any queer male Batman supporting cast.
I'm glad Ant Man reviews are positive, I'll put aside some time to be grumpy about it not being a Wasp film, but I really want to enjoy this film.
I still really want cinematic Young Avengers but they'd be difficult to do as their entire thing is legacy. It could be done but changes would have to be made on a fairly large scale. Hulking and Noh-Varr could just be explained as space stuff, America just another superhuman (although her backstory would probably need the fairly big change of removing the alt universe stuff, Stature and Patriot could be roughly the same (judging by what we know of Ant-Man Cassie would need to grow up a bit and get a suit but that could happen) and Kate!Hawkeye would need almost no changes. Prodigy might be a problem as he's a mutant but he's not been in much anyway and Loki would need to go through some form of his rebirth plotline which might not be wanted given Hiddleston's popularity (or on the other hand, the fact that Loki's got a lot of attention already). Iron Lad might not be possible as I don't know who has Kang. The biggest problem is Wiccan and Speed; although they could do the Wanda/Vision romance her powers no longer can be stretched to whatever it was that actually happened there and it requires a lot of focus. It could possibly be done as them just being regular twins and getting the same powers as the Maximoffs by infinity gem antics.
Phyla-Vell and Moondragon could easily be introduced though.

Gunn says Fox has Kang IIRC.
Edit: For a YA movie I'd place it sometime in Phase 4/5(honestly I would actually like a timeskip of 3-5 years in the MCU once, maybe after IW?). Cast should probably be something like America, Kate, Wiccan, Hulkling(the Mar-Vell part of his backstory could probably be dropped), Noh-Varr(hopefully introduced in a Gotg or Captain Marvel movie before as a young but alright Kree), Teen(but really copy)!Loki(Hiddleston can't play him forever(and he's probably going to be killed in IW)and he likes the story so I could see him in a JIM movie as Old!Loki before this one)and Speed. I would honestly save Stature and Patriot for movie 2 or replace Speed with Patriot in the first one. Noh-Varr I could also drop without any fuss.
Loki for Man Behind the Man who's using the team to complete his goal but ends up liking being a hero a bit.

I think that Moondragon is pretty much a shoe-in at this point but it'd be nice if both she AND Phyla were in GOTG 2. But Feige just recently said something about Phase 3 ramping up Marvel's commitment to diversity so I'm hoping they don't drop the ball on that front.
Unfortunately, I think the fact that Marvel relies so heavily on foreign markets might be part of the problem.
They recut their films for China all the goddamn time regardless so I really don't see why putting in same-sex couples should be an issue.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Because it's kind of hard to show a movie that used to be 2 h 30 min in Europe but now is 1 h 37 min in China/parts of Africa/probably Russia/probably other parts of Asia. Making Phyla and Moondragon part of the main team would mean their bond would be front and center and not stuff like 2 male extras kissing during a party for 1 min which can be cut out without most noticing.

Have them have a thirty minute makeout scene and a couple minutes into it the other characters get tired of waiting and just carry on while Phyla and Moondragon keep kissing in the background of every shot, somehow.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm remembering that episode of Community where they mention an airplane-friendly cut of Pulp Fiction that's just thirty minutes of people eating cheeseburgers and drinking milkshakes.
Isn't that what he said?
Though Ivy and Harley's relationship is... weird. Mostly because anything more than being the Odd Couple is largely implied, and when it is made blatant that they had a tryst its typically written from a Most Writers Are Male perspective.

I'm pretty sure the New 52 Harley Quinn comic makes it explicitly clear that Harley and Ivy have hooked up in the past.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.![]()
Holy crap.
I really wish more MCU movies ran with comic-book stuff for the credits sequences.

OK, staying off Tumblr.
Damn it people, why you gotta spoil one Ant Man end credit scene for me.
