Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I assume Hawkeye gets paid quite a bit or he has a lot of savings from his SHIELD days if he can keep tearing about his house on a whim.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAgents of SHIELD does imply from time to time Stark is bankrolling them all.
But to be specific, Hill, Widow, Hawkeye and Fury probably received hefty government sallaries back in the days of SHIELD. After Winter Soldier and SHIELD's dissolution, Agents of SHIELD shows at least Hill is now working directly for Stark, and the same is true for all others barring Fury who's living in the shadows.
Captain definitely still receives some sort of payment by the US government both due his role in WWII and due the fact he's a pseudo-agent of the government of sorts.
Thor has no need for money, being royalty in another world.
The new team has War Machine (a military officer and government enforcer, so sallary right there), Scarlett and Vision. The last two are probably both paid by Stark.
Banner is also on Stark's payroll, most likely.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."In the comics it varied from writer to writer. Sometimes the Avengers got paychecks, sometimes being on the team itself was enough because they had free room, meal, and board plus per diems.
When Hawkeye got fired from the Avengers he actually had to go out and get a legitimate job because he didn't have any money.

x5 That's not really what foreshadowing is. If the writers didn't intentionally slip in a wink-and-nudge to a future plot point, it's not foreshadowing, it's just a natural development of the story.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Does Batman actually pay anyone in the Justice League? I mean, I know he bankrolls all the equipment and stuff, but I don't think he actually gives the members any money.
He definitely doesn't pay Clark.
Also:
"Okay guys, I'm here... don't look at me like that, it's your buddy Hawkeye! Wait! I'm an honorary member, I swear! What the hell is a 'reboot?'"
Several months later:
"Okay, I'm back in my universe. Wait... everyone looks different. Aw hell, not again!"

I know about Fiction 500 and all, but how much fucking money does Stark have?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I don't think Steve ever has to pay anything while he's in America. He can just go "Hi. I'm Captain America."
My various fanfics. They get some sort of financial allowance. There was a plot point about a working class villain who got offered reserve membership and kept talking about how his family was now on easy street because they didn't have to work for a living anymore.

Part of Avengers Disassembled was that the Avengers stopped getting funds from the government after Tony got drunk without drinking a glass and made fun of a diplomat(might've been from Latveria) caused by the Scarlet Witch. Tony couldn't pay for the Avengers on his own at the time so the team split for awhile.
Later after the team reformed Tony let Peter and his family live in Avengers tower after a villain blew up Aunt May's home and MJ and Peter's apartment. After Civil War Peter and MJ quickly lost most of their saved up money because they had to stay hidden and live in motels and also pay for doctors to try to save May after being shot by one of Kingpin's hitmen. Then OMD happened.
Ooh, I wonder if Civil War means we'll get the MCU version of Penance!
You may boo now, but it'll all be worth it for a scene like this
◊ somewhere down the line.

Probably not in Coulson's case. Being calm, unfazed and vaguely friendly in the face of every situation was kind of his trademark even before Thor.
