Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I've never been a teen, I sprang fully-formed from Zeus's left kidney, but I have it on good authority that they aren't very bright.

As a teen, I'm offended.

I just watched the third Ant-man TV spot...the bit with the Avengers is hilarious.

Those posters are hilarious when you realize how quickly he's going to fall off the moment either the shield or hammer is picked up.

Or the second Tony starts flying.

I love those posters. Someone really had fun with the Ant-man concept. Honestly, I can't wait for the movie...sadly I have to wait one week longer this time around instead of getting it one week earlier....

Now my headcanon is that Scott was actually present for the events of every single Marvel movie, but was just too small to be seen.

Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast as Baron Mordo. HOLY SHIT I AM STOKED.

They also say he's going to be a Composite Character of several different Doctor Strange villains.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange.

Baron Mordo's like Stange's rival or something, right?

EDIT: [nja]'d like a boss.

Also upon rereading the article I linked it said he's likely not the main villain so hmmm...Dormammu appearance?

[up][up] Mordo was essentially strange's Arch-Enemy before Dormammu took the spot, iirc. He's also tied up in Strange's origin, has the former Pupil Turned Evil of the Ancient One.

He's typically adapted as an Evil Counterpart of Strange who serves Dormammu, just as Strange follows the Ancient One's teachings.

Very interesting. All of a sudden, Marvel is entirely averting the idea that characters should only have major enemies that are of the same race. On the other hand, if Mordo isn't the main villain of the movie this would be the third time they've had a black dragon.

That's interesting. Most people thought he was going to be Brother Voodoo. Since Mordo's supposed to be Romanian, I guess they're probably going to change his background a tiny bit to avoid the issue of Black Vikings, which shouldn't very be hard. At the least it's way less thorny canonwise than what they could do with Swinton as the Ancient One.

The article also says he won't be "entirely villainous" but I have no idea what that means in the context of the movie.

I wonder if he's going to still be a baron here. We already got two others, both HYDRA-affiliated.

So Doctor Strange will feature Sherlock Holmes battling the Operative in a battle of intelligence and will?
