Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Ant-Man will reveal that Hank Pym snuck into Avengers Tower after the final attack on HYDRA and screwed around with Ultron's programming for shits and giggles, thus resulting in everyone's favorite murderbot.
How do you guys ultimately feel about Ultron being built by Stark instead of Pym? It was a very divisive point when it was first announced but now all the fury about it appears to have, if not cooled, at least died down.
For my two cents, I'd say that having Ultron built by Tony did give us an incarnation with a unique flavor, being a snarker and insecure and a very emotional bot unlike most examples of AI gone mad.
Honestly, from the start I saw Stark building Ultron as taking the source material and making it easier to swallow.
I get Pym's a smart guy, but given he's apparently a biochemist first and foremost I always had a hard time wrapping my head around the notion that he managed to build something as high-end as Ultron.
Stark, being the robotics expert, seems a much more natural choice to create a super-advanced robotic villain.

From what I gather Ultron's got the same teen-philosopher daddy-issues bullshit in the comics but the movie played it up a lot more.
Ultron isn't just a generic evil doomsday robot!
He also has an oedipal complex.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersPym not making Ultron was my main point against the movie, party because it reinforced the idea of the MCU revolving around Tony Stark too much.
I'm fine with what we got, because it's exactly what I expected out of Joss Whedon's abilities. In that sense, I'm glad this version of Ultron was lumped in with Tony instead.
Man if those are his greatest quotes I'd hate to see what happens when the writers aren't feeling so hot.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I don't see a huge difference between that and what he says in Age of Ultron, just with an absence of "oh so vital" quips.
My various fanfics.I gotta admit, the quipping makes him better. He is, hilariously, much more emotional.
The funny thing is, Canon Ultron would have Movie Ultron because he's so emotional.
One Strip! One Strip! To each his own.
I for one enjoyed it, and let be frank: An AI based off Tony's mind not having a quick wit wouldn't make sense.
I mean, Jarvis wasn't half as advanced, and he still snarked Tony all the time, which makes me think Tony builds his AI's with inherent Snark Algorithms.
Priorities. Tony Stark has them.
It's such a weird snapshot of Avengers history because could you imagine today someone making an Avengers fighting game that ignores people like Hawkeye, the Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man while highlighting people like Hercules and Sersi?
Hey, I love Hercules!
Now that they've introduced Helen Cho, what are the odds that her son Amadeus will appear? And then when Hercules shows up, they become fast friends and go on adventures.
Dammit, I want my Incredible Hercules movie.

I can see it now; gigantic posters in the middle of boxoffice hallways, all showing off a sweaty, near-naked Hercules sporting a goofy grin, and he's holding up a giant statue like Atlus held up the globe, only the statue is one single sentence, and it says: 'Cool story, bro'.' (Oh, and Amadeus is somewhere in the background, maybe leaning back on Hercules' leg like a pimp. Because he can.)
He was Hercules' partner in his solo series; it was really more of a duo-book, with him and Amadeus making up the duo. He's also had a couple of stints on the Avengers, with his second one being pretty recent. (Though in that case, it was technically with the Illuminati, but I digress.)

And Amadeus Cho himself is like the eight smartest man in the world. He was basically introduced as Asian Rick Jones in the Hulk a few years ago, and it was around the time he appeared that they introduced the idiotic "Hulk never killed anyone because he still used his Banner superbrain to make sure no debris ever fell on people" rule.
My various fanfics.
