Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Doubt it's that. Japan has some worrying stereotypes about Korea, but not so much that it would slow down a movie release that features a Korean as an important secondary character.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.![]()
"Iron Man feat. The Avengers"
I'm personally not bothered if Avengers 2 doesn't make the money the first one did. In my opinion, the money the movies have been making are all over the place in relation to their quality. I'd be happy if 2 doing lower than 1 reflected quality (in my opinion) for once.
I wish Mad Max Fury Road made a lot more money, though.
I honestly doubt that it will make less in the end. I expect Age of Ultron to make more than The Avengers due to the higher international gross. The whole thing is mostly interesting because there are people who claim that the lower domestic gross is a sign that people are "tired" of Superhero movies, which I think is a big pile of nonsense. For me the interesting part is that obviously the international market has now caught on, too.
Seriously. So tired are people of Superhero movies that the most recent one is the #6 highest grossing film of all time and coming up fast on the #5 slot.
Only in the superhero fandom is hitting the Top Ten Charts a sign of imminent failure.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think it's kind of a yearning for older cinema. Some folks will never take storytelling in a comic film seriously. I can't say I blame them. However, many fans of the material are finally getting to see great stories adapted and more people are getting to see why those stories were so great in the first place.
It could be a sorta general dislike of a new thing. It is perceived as new and there for a fad and all fads have a limited lifespan. Of course, many of the same things were said of rock n' roll, the internet, movable type etc. I'd say that rock n' roll is here to stay and so are comic based adaptations.
Gunn says despite there being a new Guardian, GOTG2 will have less characters overall and more of a focus on characterization
. He also seems critical of the Sequel Escalation trend.

And Chris Prat said that he cried after reading the script. It will be really hard to try to keep obvious this time around. I can't wait for this movie.
Though I doubt that there will really "less" characters in the second part. The guardians will be there. The Ravengers will be there. Nebula will be there. The first movie had in addition to those characters the Nova corps, the Collector, Ronan and Korath. The new movie will have for sure some sort of villain and Starlords father. I guess in the end they will have roughly the same number of characters.

I'm thinking more and more that Martin Freeman is playing Jim Jaspers
, which makes sense.
I don't think they'll introduce an insanely over powered (and just plain insane) Reality Warper right now. He's way too out of scale for the MCU, at least until Infinity War.
It's possible they're compositing or even altering him so that those powers are either less or don't exist. Looking at his general story - "superhuman who stokes the flames of an anti-superhuman movement in order to give himself more power" sounds like it would work, especially alongside whatever manipulations Zola is making.
@Swanpride: Are you sure that the Ravagers will be there? Granted, they were involved with Peter's father, but the first film seemed to end the relationship between Peter and Yondu on a fairly solid note. If Gunn wants to have less characters, then the Ravagers ought to be the first to go.
Oh God! Natural light! He has said Yondu and Kraglin (the first mate) are in the script, so presumably the Ravagers will make an appearance.
My crackiest theory on what will happen: It turns out that Yondu is from the future and he and his team - the future Guardians of the Galaxy - found the Time Stone and used it to escape the horrible future and that's why he was looking for the Power Stone, etc.
I mean, that's probably not going to happen at all, but it would be interesting.
Actually, that would be an interesting way to work in the Time Stone.
As for Mad Jim Jaspers having too great a power as a Reality Warper to fit into the setting, well they already had a Reality Warper in Wanda, and, as I've stated prior, they turned her into Jean Grey.

Any reason it took so long to air in Japan? Only thing I can think of is the scenes in Korea but that's highly doubtful.
