Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Quicksilver's "costume" was all Under Armour so I'd assumed it might just be someone's workout clothing.

Dangit, am I gonna have to watch Avengers Assemble now?

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

It's not like the new Ms. Marvel is a series regular now, just watch the episode she'll be in.

"Pick on someone your own size" is a pretty good one-liner for Ant-Man.

That is something I thought about, even though it was explained why Ultron wasn't able to snag all the nuclear launch codes he was shown to have a significant amount of power through the internet. He really could have jacked things up a lot worse, considering the biggest threat to Ultron is Tony's heavily wifi connection dependent armor (Communicating with JARVIS, Friday, deploying Veronica, etc).

That cliffhanger, though. Hysterical.

[up][up]When the junior novelization came out someone mentioned there was a brief scene of Tony mentioning upgrading War Machine's firewalls so that Ultron couldn't infect it, with the implication being that Tony was doing the same with his own armors.

I'm wondering if that was in the script but got cut for some reason.

How Cap, Witch, and Quicksilver got to Avengers Tower so quickly is actually a great question and one I never thought about until now. Huh.

Added bold emphasis so that the question answers itself.

Quicksilver is fast but I don't think he can run halfway around the world in a matter of hours and even if he could I doubt he has the stamina for it.

Also he would have needed to be carrying Steve and Wanda.

Which is a rather hilarious mental image.

Can Quicksilver also walk over water? And carry two people?

Even if there's only one Quinjet, Stark probably has enough money for a normal jet to be available to pick up Avengers wherever they are.

So, Quicksilver's Super Smash Bros counterpart is clearly Sonic, but who is Scarlet Witch's? Zelda, maybe?

Actually, what about all the New Avengers? I imagine Vision would be a red Mega Man and Falcon could be Falco (because Captain Falcon is already Captain America, obvs). Warmachine...???

EDIT: Actually wait, no, maybe Falcon should be Pit or Dark Pit. Because wings.
