Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well since Freezer and Cell have been mentioned, might as well bring out the clips.

Ronan's reaction to the dance-off is probably the best line read in Marvel history.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Janet dying in the past: Count me in with the ones disappointed. Going by that recent interview she's as dead as they come in the MCU because the MCU changed how the shrinking worked so you die if you don't have a helmet that can give you air. Oh and btw, it seems like Hope isn't in Civil War while Scott actually is so she probably doesn't become a superhero in the movie.
@Humor: I'm going to see Ant-Man but I'm probably going to think of it like I thought of Gotg1, a overrated movie that wasn't as good as it could've been with humor that I don't personally like. Luckily for Ant-Man it's already going to be better than Gotg1 since I don't have something like Dn A!Cosmic Marvel to compare it to and get angry over.
@Villains: They could do a MCU Sinister Six movie by having Norman as the villain of the first movie who goes to jail at the end of it and then have the next movies feature more villains going to jail until Norman breaks out with them and goes to get revenge on Spider-Man and the city in a later movie.

They actually out and said Janet died as a result of shrinking without a helmet? When was this?

They didn't but they said she was part of a failed experiment/test/accident in the past and in a more recent interview explained the differences between the MCU and comic shrinking and said "Oh and if you take off the helmet, shrink without a helmet or breathe without using the helmet you die so Scott has a massive weakpoint in the movies because Yellowjacket can just rip off a tube to the helmet and Scott dies" which sounds like just the kind of thing that can only be discovered by someone shrinking without protection and dying/almost dying.
She could've just left the family but AFAIK they only talk about her in the past tense in interviews.
This btw also means there can only be three shrinkers in the movie because there are only three suits(Yellowjacket's soon to be mass produced military suit, Scott's suit and Hank's old one).
In the comics Hank/Scott/Janet can just shrink everyone down with them without any trouble. Hell a recent She-Hulk arc had her and Hellcat shrink down in a garden and fight cats and birds.

Or it could be a more straightforward "here's a weakness/danger that might be important in the climax" infodump, and Hank could know it because he's aware of the superscience involved with his own invention.
Like Bifrost being powerful enough to wipe out a planet. The fact that we're informed it can happen doesn't necessarily mean Asgard has gone Death Star on some poor race at some point in the past, nor does the reason Heimdall knows this need to be explained - Heimdall is established as the expert of the technology (as Hank is with shrinking here), so we trust he knows what he's talking about.

I have been looking forward to Ant-man since they said that it will be a heist movie (love those), and everything I have seen since then only made me more excited. I love the father/daughter angle, the special effects look great and that they gave ant-man some weaknesses is a really good idea. A guy who can shrink and grow at will is too powerful for my taste.
I wonder how much focus Lang's daughter is actually going to get. I mean, I don't think she's even actually appeared in any trailer yet so are they going to just take the road that oh yeah, she was totally adopted when Scott went to jail, so won't appear much? Or is he going to have some sort of bond with her? I don't know how long the prison sentence was in the movie version or how old movie Cassie is but he must have missed some of her childhood at least.
Or are they just going to go down the heist movie, with a fight at the end route...? Hmm.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."In the comics Hank/Scott/Janet can just shrink everyone down with them without any trouble. Hell a recent She-Hulk arc had her and Hellcat shrink down in a garden and fight cats and birds.
I wouldn't say there wasn't any trouble. The big problem was that the other scientist's shrink ray caused people and objects to randomly explode. It's only Pym's particles that allow shrinking/growing without problem.
If there are three suits, I totally want Hope to get one and shrink down during the final battle and just take out Yellowjacket.
Even the article says that's a shaky rumor. Would like Theron in the role.

I was actually going to bring that up later if anyone had nabbed onto it. Pym has the best shrinking tech in the comics so that they have to make up a weakness in it for the movies is a bit sad since it means we won't get the kind of crazy stuff that comic!Hank and Pym can do is a bit sad. No shrinking down the entire Avengers.

No shrinking down the entire Avengers.
No, they could still shrink the Avengers, but this means each Avenger would get their own shrinking suit! Which reminds me of this line with Iron Man:
"Nice Hulkbuster armor."
"Thanks, you should see the one I have for taking down Ant-Man."

He seriously has an anti-Ant-Man armor
I mean, considering that whenever Ant-Man goes crazy he suddenly jumps up seventy competence points and wrecks the Avengers, its probably a good idea.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Wait, Atwell was in Atlanta for the Civil War shooting?
Cartinelli is cute but a little too one-sided in the canon IMO to be more than a funship, sry
