Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Too bad that 2099 movie that was planned for The Amazing Spider-Man Series was canned.
I would have seen a 2099 film so many times...
Although, with Sony in charge of the spinoffs still, we might be able to get the best of both worlds, being able to delve into Spider-Man's larger world without diverting Marvel's resources away from other properties.
Assuming Sony's pulled their heads out of their butts/Marvel is able to at least keep an eye on the spinoffs if they want to be part of the MCU.
Peter's also Spider-Man. The actual, true, genuine Spider-Man, not a less than five years old Elseworld character who got a publicity push because media stupidity.
Sigh. Look, I get it, you like Peter Parker. But this line of reasoning is stupid — saying that Peter is the "actual, true, genuine" Spider-Man negates the fact that, fuck it, so is Miles Morales. Miles is the "actual, true, genuine" Spider-Man of the Ultimate Universe, which is not an Elseworlds.
(Elseworlds are one-shot AUs that were put out by DC. Key point: one-shot. The Ultimate Universe has gone on for fifteen years and for a third of that, Miles was Spider-Man.)
And soon, Miles will also be the "actual, true, genuine" Spider-Man for the main Marvel universe.
And no, the media didn't push it because of "stupidity" (although I won't argue that the media can be stupid at times): they pushed it because Marvel pushed it because this was a big deal for one of the longest running Marvel characters, an actual change, even if only in a parallel continuity. In fact, I'd say most of the media outlets pushing it knew it was the Ultimate universe — and most of the media outlets disparaging it thought it was the regular universe.
As for the "real reason" to pick Miles instead of Peter...you know what, "diversity" is a real reason. Also there's the fact that Miles is just a more interesting character.
I don't need an "essay" on why people want him. Just something about why I, a huge Peter Parker fan, should want to see him instead.
Here's the thing, though: there is nothing anyone can say that will change your mind. Because your mind is already made up. It's apparent in the way you write "not some racial quota" or "actual, true, genuine Spider-Man." You don't want Miles, we get it. But lots of other people do, so get over it.
I must have missed that. Who are they?
Patsy Walker and the character played by Carrie-Ann Moss.

Because unlike what you seem to believe, people actually do like Miles for his own sake, not just because he is black. See, I can't pin point anything particularly great about Miles, and nothing that makes him particularly better than Peter. But I like Miles and he makes a good protagonist. I've already seem multiple versions of Peter Parker on cinema and I didn't even like the last few of them, so I kinda want something else. I mean, I would prefer many other character of Miles alsonote , but if we are getting a "Spider-Man", I would rather get Miles, not Peter.
As for Miguel, I simply don't know him. He is an old character from the 90s, when I didn't read comics. I believe the reason there aren't many people claimoring for him is that, they simply don't know the guy and, thus, don't care for him.
Also, yeah, claiming Miles is popular because "stupidity" and saying diversity isn't a "real reason" just makes you seems like an asshole. I propose you stop doing that.

I know it would be interesting for me to have the relationship of Miles Dad who is at the least not approving of supers and to (unknowingly) have his son run out and be Spider-Man. It is a dynamic we haven't really seen in the MCU yet.
Honestly though, I would rather have a Ms. Marvel (Khamala Khan) movie/tv show before yet another iteration of Spider-Man (whether it he be white or black). For that matter I would have also preferred Spider-Woman/Spider-Gwen for the MCU.
Yeah, frankly, I wouldn't mind not having a new Spider-Man. Tons of good underused characters out there.
I didn't know Patsy was LGBT. I even give a quick check on the Wikipedia and found nothing of sort. Cool, then.

I don't think Peter had died yet as a result of Secret Wars.
He was one of the 'essential' characters Manifold teleported onto the lifeboat. The essentiality he brought is that he was popular so we'd want to know what happened with him. Star-Lord was also brought aboard by the same trick. And we haven't learned what happened with the lifeboat yet so 616 Peter is probably still kicking.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersPeter especially: There's a bunch of Spiders running around Battleworld, although given the name of the book that might be partially caused by Spider-Verse (notably, Spider-Gwen is in a domain where Non-Spider-Gwen died so it seems like there's an additional level of universe shenanigans) and the damage to the great web. That's on top of the more conventional (such as Inferno) duplicates.
I don't think Peter had died yet as a result of Secret Wars.
616 Peter is still alive, 1610 Peter is dead. (Although I believe one clone of his is still alive.)
And, okay, here's where it's a bit confusing: 616 Peter and 616 Cyclops were both in the lifeboat when the Earths were destroyed. However, in Ultimate End, both 616 Peter and 616 Cyclops show up as part of a merged 616/Ultimate Manhattan. My theory is that Doom didn't know about the lifeboat, thought that everyone was dead, so recreated everyone in the city with his godlike powers (which is also why 616 Iron Man is using his old armor and not the white one). So there are now two 616 Peters, one in the city and one in the lifeboat.
... Shit.
Hey, AKA Jessica Jones people, could you do me a solid and not do the ficking laziest story involving a queer couple you possibly could? Because, like, you've currently got the only non-straight MCU characters in the palm of your hand and it'd be nice if you didn't abuse that.
Thanks.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."

I'd like to state I'm enirely on board with Miguel O'Hara. Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time gave the character a really good showing.
