Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Not Asians, but as the I Love Lucy page shows, being "Hispanic", even if you were mestizo (but not if you were, say, black, mulatto or pure Indian), once counted as white. For that matter, so was being from the Middle East (that's how Queen Noor's grandfather came to America). Even today a lot of Arabs, Persians, and other people from the area self-identify as white on censuses or such. Which goes to show how arbitrary and imprecise the terms "white" and "POC" often are.

I mean there's that and the whole general "we're gonna squat even though we've got access to craploads of money because ARTISTS, how dare you make us pay for a home".
As someone who's involved with homelessness issues that shit is intolerable. Some folks legitimately can't fucking afford an apartment and these shitheads are angry because even though they can pay they don't want to? I don't doubt Rent has done more to contribute to the "get a job" line of thought than some conservative pundits.
Actually Ball had to develop and tour a fucking vaudville act to prove to network execs that an interracial marriage would possibly fly with the audience. So.
A decade or so later Star Trek would cast a Hispanic man as an Indian because they're both "ethnic" and no one would know the difference.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Weren't their scenes where they're complaining that they could just call their folks and ask for rent money but INTEGRITY? Maybe I'm misremembering.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I mean... maybe? I don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure Mark at least really hates his parents, so it's probably more complex than that.
And as someone who has actually dealt with having to ask people for money, and not really wanting to, I'm... kinda sympathetic to that problem.
That's exactly what it is.
x2 And that's exactly what it's not. Even though plenty of people exaggerate it into being that.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."![]()
It can be two things.
(Hell especially in the 90s)
I dunno. I found the characters insufferable and thus perhaps felt disinclined to cut them slack. I assumed Mark's hatred of his parents looked a lot like Britta Perry's in this past season of Community.

Tracie Thoms.

Fair enough.
It's Disney. Maybe a decade or two.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I had something snarky to say about tumblr-esque attitudes about race, but I'll skip to the good part of my post:
Personally I'd just as soon see Miles Morales. I like him better than Peter anyway. Sure he's Ultimate Marvel, but he's been to 616 before and it wouldn't be the first time Marvel's pulled a fast one (Three words: Nick Fury Jr) to get a better character installed in another universe.

Actually both 616 and 6160 are dead so it really shouldn't be any trouble at all.
That's legit hilarious. I actually picked her because I liked her in Wonderfalls and remembered she said she wanted to play a superhero a while back.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I've also seen people suggesting Natalie Dormer.
Likely almost entirely because of this image.

Doesn't AOS have an LGBT character in it? As well as one who explicitly wasn't to avoid Unfortunate Implications. There's also Howard Stark who came this close to admitting he was in love with Steve. I'd say the generally warm reception towards the LGBT characters in Korra, Steven Universe, Clarence, and Jem shows there's not much backlash to fear from having an LGBT character by Phase 3. Honestly their presence getting a film Banned in China is the bigger actual threat.
616 Peter died again? I thought he was back after the whole Superior Spider Man fiasco.

ABC said that ac was a miniseries to assure the viewers that they won't be left hanging in the middle of the story after only 8 episodes but the writers have been talking for a long time about making it a couple of miniseries each of them showing Peggy at a different point in her live. Meaning they would have reached th time during which the civil rights movement was big sooner or later
