Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It would be funny as hell if, in Civil War, Vision takes on the name Jonas.
I admit I really wasn't paying attention to the plot, since I was forcing myself so hard to just stop overthinking every single thing. So far, now that I've had time to digest what I saw:
Likes
- Seeing who these guys are when they aren't in costume. The scenes at the farmhouse were quite good.
- I love how Stark Tower looks, as far as design and available tech and so on. That's the kind of futurey-ness I'm trying to shoot for in a world I'm trying to build.
- The humor. ("Language!")
Dislikes
- It felt like there was a bit too much going on at times.
- The saving of the city felt like a real Pyrrhic Victory.
Other
- I still tune out fight scenes because it just feels like a total waste of time that keeps having me shouting, "Get on with it already, we already know how the bleep this is gonna turn out!"
- I didn't get why Tony and Thor had to leave at the end.
- Glowy forehead guy. Wasn't really understanding who he was.
They had to leave because they're white males, which was causing people to complain about how racist and/or sexist Marvel is. Same reason Quicksilver died.
Wow, no. Thanks for playing however.
Thor left because he had to go back to Asgard, because he realized something was wrong. He will be back in Thor: Ragnarok.
Tony left because it was him that created Ultron and he needed to have some space. He will be back in Captain America: Civil War.
Quicksilver died because Joss wanted to kill someone to show the stakes and he didn't want to kill off the only other female character.

Yeesh. A fine time to walk back in here.
I'm hoping for another Ant Man thingy now that we're moving past the Ultron blitz. I'm also glad he's in Civil War.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectEagal, he's seriously having trouble here. There's no need to be sarcastic.
@Twen: Thor left because with the revelation that Loki's Scepter contained the Mind Stone, that meant three Infinity Stones (the Space Stone in the Tesseract from the first Captain America movie and the Reality Stone as the Aether from the second Thor movie) had shown up on Earth within a short time, plus the Power Stone from Guardians of the Galaxy. The Infinity Stones are stupidly powerful, so the fact that four of the six have shown up is very worrying. He returned home to seek answers. Tony, on the other hand, is responsible for creating Ultron, and needs to handle the political fallout and possibly pay for damages.
Vision... is a long story. I'm not sure exactly what you need to know. I'll leave that to someone else to explain.

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Yeah, Paul Bettany gets the 'otherwordly intelligent AI' thing down pretty well.
I like how he imitated Thor's cape. It was funny and an oddly good justification for Vision to have one.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@alliterator Also probably because let's face it, Scarlet Witch has way more storytelling potential and stronger ties to the Avengers than Quicksilver ever has. It's annoying that he got fridged, but people who try to spin it as "yet another example of media's anti-male agenda" are either being disingenuous or missing the point.
I think Eagal was being sarcastic anyway.
Yeah, I don't feel that Scarlet Witch's beef with Tony Stark has been sufficiently worked through just yet.
Especially since Ultron was, once again, kind of Tony's fault. Man, the guy just can't catch a break.

Technically, male characters cannot be "fridged." Women In Refrigerators refers to a female character who is killed/maimed/depowered to further a male character's story.

Speaking of, whose side would Ant Man be on in Civil War?
Neither, he'd be under everybody.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI do hope Scarlet Witch is actually explored in the future movies, rather than just 'accepted' as a hero or 'developed' into hero status without addressing her colossal fuck ups leading up to and in Age of Ultron. She's still very much a villain at the end of Age of Ultron, she just happens to be on Captain America's side at the end.

Sure it can. The original "Women In Refrigerators" site was indeed centered around women and calling out a Double Standard, but the term and concept of "Stuffed in the Fridge", which is related but separate, is gender-neutral. It's not uncommon to apply that trope to gay or nonwhite men who die in service of the White Male Lead.

They never actually call him Vision(it's always "the/our/my vision", "him" etc)so go right ahead.
