Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Probably your comments on the issues of adapting Priest's run, although that's really not quite the same thing as supporting Hudlin. Honestly I do think they'll take from a whole bunch of series in the same way Iron Man 2 and the Winter Soldier did, although Priest's version will probably dominate for most of the reasons already given.

Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch were also credited in The First Avenger and Avengers, I believe.
I would not want him involved. I did say I expected them to include the character of Princess Shuri, who he created, but as I said before that's pretty much because the character doesn't have a huge supporting cast to draw from in the way Captain America and Iron Man do.
I would prefer they draw more heavily from Priest's, I was just saying certain elements of it might be a big no-no for Marvel since it's pretty critical of American foreign policy. But that can easily be worked around, I think.

I suspect that as well.

I certainly think Yon-Rogg will make an appearance in Captain Marvel or possibly earlier in Guardians 2. Now that Ronan is dead the Kree empire will need a new poster boy to represent it on screen. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Ronan's original story arcs get inherited by Yon-Rogg.
As a rule; The Kree Empire needs someone for the characters to punch before you take the matter into your own hands and start punching your comic book yourself.

I still don't know what to expect though. It makes it hard to articulate what I may or may not like, or know if I'm liking something totally stupid.

The problem is, for the longest time I didn't really like ANY movies, and so far, something is making me go back to the MCU well even if I'm still too green to know exactly what.
That's fair. Actions films as a whole arebased on a strange collection of tropes their audiences take for granted.
I would never recommend someone who's never watched an action film in their life to jump in with any old film, because modern action films are kind of build on the assumption that you know how action films work; what scenarios imply tension, and what kind of things might or might not be subverted.
I tend to recommend Die Hard as an introduction to action films; it's not aged as well as I'd like; but it's certainly the codifier for the genre but assumes no prior knowledge of how action films work.
Tell me about it. The crew of Marley & Me used the building that my dad works in at one point. I thought that was pretty neat.

Other people appreciate the spectacle, I suppose.
At least when its not edited to cut every half second?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKnowing who's going to win is really just a detail. The fun part is how. The entertainement in action movies is not necessairly if the hero will beat the villain, but rather how.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I... have honestly never heard of someone just not having a suspension of disbelief. Except a comic book character.
At the very least, though, if you have an issue with them just showing the Avengers dicking around... yeah, there's probably no point in watching movies.
The reason they show that is because that's what people do. Ideally, movies aren't just straight action and plot. They have character development. The Avengers aren't Avenging all the time, and showing that is how they illustrate the group dynamic.

During Annihilation war, I think.
It was in Annihilation Conquest, actually, the sequel to Annihilation. And yeah, Groot as introduced by Giffen was a bit different than the later "I am Groot" fellow. Basically the personalities of the Guardians as seen in the movie weren't properly established until in the ongoing GoG comic series by Abnett & Lanning, which is why those two guys were credited in the movie end titles, not Giffen or the writers who originally created these characters (Lee, Mantlo, Englehart, Starlin). The Abnett & Lanning GoG was pretty much my favourite Marvel comic of the recent years, so it was kinda sad that at the same time their characters was made hugely popular by the movie, the comic itself was derailed by Brian Bendis, who didn't seem to understand at all what made the cosmic Marvel comics so special.
