Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Shield showed up with one helicarrier. Shield has one helicarrier. Okay, so in order to get it flying, 47 percent of the crew was probably a redheaded inhuman, but.. who's counting?

The show itself is wishy washy on that. They keep having enough agents to have full teams of Red Shirts and techs, but also have only the main characters on the base when the climax is happening.

http://screenrant.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-2-casting-james-gunn/ Ooh, more women on the team. Hoping we get Moondragon and Phylla-Vell together.

"2 female members on the team" probably means Gamora+someone else, not Gamora and 2 new female members.

I'm counting on it being Mantis because I can't see(or really don't trust) Marvel actually having a non hetero relationship in the movies(also don't google Phyla-Vell+Moondragon if you want to be unspoiled on their major arcs and actions).

If I could choose, Gotg2 would feature Moondragon joining the team, Captain Marvel(if Mar-Vell has any part in it)to mention Phyla as Mar's only daughter who he's very proud of etc and then have her join the team in Gotg3 and be the romantic sub plot of the movie with Moondragon. Then they run away because only bad things happen to them and their love.

It's worth noting that their wording is slightly misleading. He confirmed he's casting a new Guardian and talking with an actor right now, but the specific post about adding two new women to the team was something he said at a press junket for the first movie where he said he hopes the next iteration of the team has at least two women.

That could just mean Gamora and then one other heroine.

Confusion aside people seemed to take Howard Stark and his crush pretty well in Agent Carter, so who knows.

So, like, if Jim Carrey signed a nine-picture deal to play Carnage, for the duration of nine film appearances, the studio would have to use Jim Carrey for the role of Carnage and Jim Carrey would have to appear when the studio wanted to make movies with Carnage in them, but if the studio only made one movie with Carnage and never used the character for anything else, nothing happens.

...

...Would anyone be upset if I said I wouldn't mind seeing Jim Carrey as Carnage just to see how that would work?

I think Topher Grace would have been a much better Carnage than a Venom.

[up][up]When you say Toxin do you mean the Symbiote or Patrick Mulligan?

Cause I always give the symbiotes female voices when I read them and Toxin is voiced by Tara Strong. Venom usually sounds like Tricia Helfer.

[up] I meant Topher as Cletus and Tobey as Pat.

[up][up] Now all we need is the perfect Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson for Anti-Venom and Venom.

Went to see AOU again. My sister pointed out a line that I missed the first time, by Ultron during the final battle.

Man. Ultron really is my favourite MCU villain so far.

Unless you count Cal from Agents of SHIELD. He was pretty good too. I just like hammy villains in general. Serious villains are so boring.

Joe for Flash is good.

I think Alfie Allen would work better as Harry Osborn. Or maybe the actor that plays Ramsay can be Harry.

Eddie Brock should be a bigger, bulkier guy.

Sean Bean for Uncle Ben.

Richard Madden was Kit in the Cinderella remake so he has a good shot at getting a role in the MCU as well.

I feel like Richard Madden would make a good Eddie Brock. Hell, he'd make an amazing Flash Thompson/Venom come to think of it.

He's not lean enough to be Peter.
