Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We didn't have time to come up with a proper name because we were too busy eating steak and shooting guns.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Sorry for veering the conversation off-topic with that bluelink about Argentina Is Nazi-Land in regard to the Honduran-American Sitwell.
It was a bad joke and to be honest, I was confusing Honduras with Paraguay, which is really embarrassing because they aren't even on the same sub-continent (and more importantly, it doesn't seem like Honduras really has any association with fleeing Nazis).

The thing is that you guys took the name of the whole continent as the short name for your country and, thus made your demonym the same as the demonym of the whole continent. Then some of you have the galls of complain when someone use "America" and "Americans" in the brother sense. It can get annoying.
Btw, the premise of your country sounds kinda arrogant on itself. "United States of America", as if it was of all America. It is too late to fix now, of course.
Anyway, that discussion is mostly pointless. Personally, I only take issue when some asshole come to say to me I can't use the terms I am most comfortable with and am forced to adapt to whatever they think it is more proper. Or when someone seriously try to argue that 'America' can't be a continent because it is clearly two continents even though the whole divisions of continents are all fairly arbitrary to begin with.
I was vaguely under the impression that the division of continents was more socio-political than anything else.
Europe is Europe because all these dorks have history with each other.
Or something?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn the topic of actual Marvel news, which I haven't seen here yet, Black Panther's introduction in Civil War involves him "hunting" for the Winter Soldier
.
The current theory seems to be that one of Bucky's many brainwashed crimes was murdering T'Chaka, and now T'Challa wants revenge and/or justice.
I was just thinking about Black Panther, too - though more about his solo movie and what villains it might have. Klaue is a given, but even with his introduction in Ultron, I don't see Klaue carrying an entire movie: he's a supplier, not an instigator, and I still think T'Challa's initial threat ought to be something born of Wakanda. So Man Ape possibly - albeit heavily altered (my old theory would be having M'Baku be a general or noble who makes a power grab for the country).
Or Moses Magnum, if they make him Wakandan in this continuity like they did in Iron Man Armored Adventures (or maybe he was just vaguely African there - I can't remember).

That doesn't explain why 'Asia' is a single continent. I mean, the Middle East, in general, have more shared history with Northern African and Europe than with China. Similarly, there is no reason then to cut America in half as we share a common trait as colonized countries.

Nope. Here
a map of the 15 most important tectonic plates. See if that is how the continents are usually divided. In some cases it matches well (Africa), but in others not at all. Not to mention that even the tectonic plates can be divided in different ways. The "Indo-Australian plate"
is a thing, but no one will ever claim India and Australia are a single continentnote . Not to mention plates are not about continents but about the whole world. It include oceans in there.
Overall, the continent are commonly divided in semi-arbitrary lines based on a mix of history and geography. There are multiple ways you can cut them, so it is pointless to try to find the "one true way".

The country was named when Manifest Destiny and conquering the whole continent—sorry, "taming the savages for their own good"—was a big thing. So yeah, definitely arrogant.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Don't worry, it will make perfect sense once we complete our secret plans of annexing the rest of y'all. Think of the name as Foreshadowing.
Except Canada. We love Canada. It's America's Hat.

Yeah, I hope Black Panther's film goes heavy on the Wakanda worldbuilding and political drama. Making Klaw the singular Big Bad would be too repetitive and simplistic, and I don't want to see Wakanda watered down into a nation of Noble Savages when Priest showed that the nation is plenty capable of political depth and complexity. I agree that M'Baku would be a pretty interesting Big Bad, though I idea for M'Baku, although I agree they'd have to be very careful with the whole Jabari issue if they don't discard it entirely.
As for the Bucky thing, Umberto Gonzalez is extremely hit-or-miss, but it does makes more sense for Bucky to actually have done the deed while Klaue at most called the hit on behalf of HYDRA. On a side note apparently he's the son of a Nazi war-criminal who worked directly with Baron Strucker, which makes his ties to HYDRA a lot more justified than I originally thought.

"Don't worry, it will make perfect sense once we complete our secret plans of annexing the rest of y'all. Think of the name as Foreshadowing. "
them I have the perfect solution: destroy the white house, disband the country, retake it and THEM rename to a better sounding name and everyone is happy!...
which it think was HYDRA plans anyway, "welcome to HYDRALAND!"....or something
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"

You know, I could make a FREEDOM joke, but I choose not to.
