Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We all know why that is, right? For the record? And why given that it took enormous amounts of external pressure to get Captain Marvel and Black Panther going we are maybe being a bit optimistic if we expect a Ms. Marvel film?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Bollywood and Lollywood have a pretty healthy stable of actors to draw from for Germans Love David Hasselhoff reasons, although an American actress would probably be a better choice overall.
I've said it before, I'm fine with the funeral being for Peggy as long as she just dies of old age. Because given her line of work and how crazy the world is in the MCU, one has to be unbelievably badass to die of old age.
Heck, have a couple of ex-KGB types who decades prior tried and failed to have her assassinated show up who show up to pay their respects to a Worthy Opponent.
And regarding Kamala Khan's potential casting. I agree they could probably go with an unknown as long as she has the acting ability. I also wouldn't be so strict as to limit it to just Pakistani-Americans. We rarely insist on, for example, casting German actors to play Germans. So as far as I'm concerned if whoever they cast can make an actual Pakistani-American viewer think Kamala Khan's actress is probably Pakistani-American, then it's fine by me.

This. There is no lack of representation for Germans in media. Germans don't, in general, suffer from tons of prejudice from USA society either. It is simply not comparable.
Btw, Kamala may be American, but she does speak Urdu. In particular, she always call her parents 'abu' and 'ami', which I think it means 'father' and 'mother', among other small other foreign words that creeps in her vocabulary. It is not strictly necessary, but it would be nice if the actress could pronounce does properly.
Honestly, the habit of Americans to cast non-Germans in German roles is not a good one, at least not if the character is actually supposed to speak the language at one point. For a character who doesn't speak the language though and isn't supposed to have the accent, though, it wouldn't matter, as long as the actor looks right. (I always say the same about voice acting. It doesn't really matter how the voice actor looks like as long as the voice fits).
Oh, believe me, Germans do. We just don't tend to make a fuss about it. But "All Germans are Nazis" is a trope for a reason, one we usually accept without protest as part of the penance for what our ancestors did, though it does sometimes lead to really strange ideas about our culture. More annoying is that many Americans think that whole Germany is like Bavaria during the Octoberfest. Upside is that those kind of stereotypes don't give you reason to hide the fact that you are German-American. It is not like there aren't any prejudices, it is just easier to hide that you are German if you have to.

Other people can describe the race stuff much better and that is the biggest part of it but language is actually a pretty notable contribution. Unless the writer is/gets a translator and the actor is dedicated to learning each syllable of their lines, an actor trying to speak a language they don't have, even briefly, sounds really stupid. I don't know how often she would do that but just in general.

I think it would be best to just do a casting call and hire an unknown. I don't think there are any well known actors that would fit into her demographic.
