Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Honestly before we know what "registration" entails, it is impossible to judge why they should fall on different sides of the issue...and on which one they would end up. Just because they had a certain position in the comics it doesn't mean that they won't change it up for the movie.
For example, if it is about governmental control which entails Cap having to ask for approval before launching a mission, I can certainly see him balking at this. It is way more difficult to imagine either character pro-registration. But then, Tony likes to be in control, and if he feels more secure with it, he might be for it.
Guys, guys!
I figured out how they can get Emma Stone into the MCU!
(Hears moans of "Oy, this again." and "Seriously?")
Hear me out. So instead of her being Black Cat like I suggested before, she could totally be the MCU version of Betty Brant!
(Come to think of it, has there ever been a Betty Brant in the Raimi-verse or Amazing-verse?)
I wonder how Emma would look in brownish/blackish hair...

Betty was in the Raimi movies, but she was pretty much a background extra.

Hmmm.
Not bad-looking.
Now if she got one of those Bob Haircuts that Betty has in the comics, I think I really am on to something, no?
Also, turns out there was a Betty Brant in the other Spider-Man movies. Namely the Raimi-verse movies. Huh.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, I found out while I was looking up Betty Brant. Still, you
'd me pretty good.

With respect, we still don't know who's gonna be the Web-Head. (Even though signs point to Asa Butterfield, but hey, don't count your chickens before they hatch.) But yeah, he's basically looking like a teen.
The way I see it, the age difference could work since they could totally recreate that scene in The Spectacular Spider-Man where Peter asks Betty out, but she declines due to the age difference between them.

The MCU is large. Is there any reason why Emma Stone has to be in the Spider-man part of it?
Plus, we know nothing about this movie yet - not even the actor for sure. So, why not wait and see? There is so much more current stuff. Set pictures from Civil war (which so far concentrate on the main characters from the last movie, which undermines the theory that the avengers will have a cameo/minor role). Peggy travelling to California next season (perhaps they tackle the Mc Carthy era). The implications of Ao S awesome season finale. Ant-Man (and I honestly can't wait for it, I have a good feeling concerning this movie). And naturally Age of Ultron. I wonder if it will manage to get ahead The Avengers due to international box office in the end, even if it doesn't manage to beat it domestically. (Honestly, how anyone can claim that the box office of Age of Ultron is proof that the audience gets tired of Superhero movies is beyond me). Chances are that we learn earlier something about Black Panther than Spider-man.

Regarding international revenues: at this point they're barely comparable even year-to-year, never mind between movies several years apart, because of how fast China's total box office is growing.
In 2007, Chinese people paid less than $0.5 billion to see movies in the theatre. In 2014, over $4 billion. It's a large proportion of the global box office, and things are at the point where big action movies - Transformers 5 and Furious 7 - are making more money in China than in the the US & Canada. So comparing a 2008 movie to a 2015 one and expecting that to say anything about the individual movies is simply not valid.

Emma Stone for Carol Danvers?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsWho do we want Matthew McConaughey to play if he decides to do a MCU movie?
Edit: I don't know why but I can see Yvonne Strahovski as Carol Danvers. Maybe it's the smile?

The other day I was thinking to myself about who Denzel Washington would play if he was in the MCU.
Amusingly, I keep thinking Nick Fury. Moses Magnum, maybe?
People make physical contact with the Tesseract to no ill effect as well, notably Nick Fury when he tried to flee with it. The only time it killed someone for touching it was the Red Skull, and it was agitated at the time.
The Power Gem has so far been the only one to demonstrate a behavior of overwhelming power that tears apart anyone who makes physical contact with it, likely as a consequence of being the Power Gem.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.IIRC, before being teleported Skull was the only one who ever touched it directly, and he never did so without special means. Nick makes sure to only touch it briefly.
The reason Jane didn't get instantly killed by the Aether is because the Aether doesn't do that. The Power Gem kills on contact because it destroys things. The Aether is... different. The energy building up within her would have killed her, eventually, but the Aether itself did the exact same thing to her as it did to Malekith when it bonded with him.

From what I can tell from reading a bit about the Reality Gem, it is very dangerous, and one should not attempt to use it without the Time and Space Gems.
Or something like that.

Oh God! Natural light!

Their views on registration make sense, given their last outings.
Cap's against it. The last time overbearing governmental oversight happened, it was a HYDRA conspiracy to take over the world.
Tony's for it. The last time nobody oversaw him, Ultron tried to take over the world.
This place is careless.
