Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I mean, it's better than the other Captain Marvel's nickname, which is the Big Red Cheese.

There is a Noodle Incident that explains it.

We don't know exactly what a happened but apparently Carol was hanging over the toilet for some time.

The hamburger thing made me think of this for some reason.

And people say Joss Whedon is bad when he wants to make a character a Politically Incorrect Villain.

[up][up] Definitely a Doombot. Doctor Doom would never be that uncouth.

Well, that was obviously a Doombot.

...I don't care what the story said, it was a Doombot. Doom. Bot.

False.

Carol is curvier than average.

I've seen some fancasts suggest Gwendoline Christie for Carol, and man am I here for that.

That might be one of the few castings in comic book movie history where the movie version is taller than the comic version.

Also, I like how, apparently, in comics "hollywood pudgy" just means "Uh, yeah, her boobs are slightly bigger than a C-cup I guess? Not really consistently, though."

(Not knocking you, Comic Writer, just the general idea that Carol isn't rail-thin)

Lets have some fun guys. MCU carol leitmotif. Pick her a themesong.

- Note the soundtrack to Top Gun and Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar are disqualified due to obviousness.

I listened to a few Carol mixes on 8tracks recently

or constantly. And then moved onto She-Hulk and Wasp.

Wasp doesn't have that many. And a chunk of them are Cap/Wasp mixes.

Did the track include Women in Uniform?

And did Tony Stark put it there?

Also the intro song to the She-Hulk series was discovered some time ago.

The She-Hulk one fits the seventies feel of the show I have in my head.

So sue me.

The She-Hulk one is whatever (though, I mean, maybe not a song where a guy sings about objectifying a woman and how she's "his"). I was talking about the "Women in Uniform" song. That song is garbage.

No, no, Carol's theme song is obviously Don't Stop Me Now by Queen:

I'm a racing car passing by
Like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go, go, go
There's no stopping me

I'm burning through the sky, yeah
200 degrees, that's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
