Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, I know. But let's face it, the high prolific Avengers are all already in the movies or get their own TV-show. I was looking for characters they can add to pre-existing franchises, not for ones they can use to carry a movie - at least not yet. If someone had me asked years ago what I think about a Black Widow movie my answer would have been "problematic, the character is a little bit obscure", now I am absolutely sure that a movie with her as main character would not only work but can be a box office success.
We are now in Phase 3, in which we get a new set of Avengers. I suspect that Marvel will stick to what they did so far. They will pay attention which ones of those characters resonates with the audience and then give those sequels. But what happens then? Will they do to the "next generation" in the hope that the Avenger-name will be enough of a draw for the audience?

At this point the Marvel brand practically prints money so if the MCU is going to address its diversity problem then by all means it should dig through its more obscure properties to find some. They wouldn't have much of an excuse not to, considering GOTG was a smash hit and Ant Man is probably going to do well, and those are themselves fairly obscure.
Remember how Marvel and Disney said there would be more Black Widow toys? About that...
He had the marriage annulled because she was a dick about the Avengers vs X-Men thing or because he was a dick about it but basically someone was being a jerk and T'Challa reacted by ragequitting the relationship.
She still ended up being the person he spent his last hours with when he thought the world was ending though.
@Avengers Academy: The MCU is sort of in a good place to actually do an adaptation of that with the new Avengers facility and focus on new members. But I don't know how you'd do the 'troubled kids at risk of becoming supervillians' thing. There's a lot of context for Avengers Academy in the comics and it doesn't have to be beat-by-beat adapted but I wonder what they'd do instead.

I remember reading somewhere that the guys who launch toylines consider that only boys are interested in action figures, and only in those representing male characters (hence why so many superheros cartoons end up with a nearly all-male cast). Girls must probably be interested only in dolls representing princesses, I guess, unless it's simply that any action figure of a female character is a doll, and thus, not worthy of the attention of a boy.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.![]()

God dammit! Apparently you can have an Ironman on a motorcycle(because that makes sense) but not a Black Widow. What the hell?

I propose both Ororo and T'Challa were being jerks in that AvX thing. Mostly because everyone were being jerks in that thing (Namor and Wolverine the jerkiest of them all).
As for AA. The fact the main group are dangerous/troubled kids is important. Of course things would change as the comic context is vastly different to how the MCU is right now, but this aspect I think is too important. It could be as simple as just saying these particular kids have too dangerous powers and/or troubling personalities, which warrant them being on a special group by themselves.

Oh, that's not the worst of it. Apparently, not only do some people think female Superhero toys can't sell, but Marcel's own CEO thinks female Superhero movies can't sell either.
Ugh. It doesn't really say much for me (I see all the hero movies as soon as possible within my schedule) but I am definitely seeing Captain Marvel (and Wonder Woman) and encouraging all those who listen to do the same. Even disregarding the (very important) part of supporting female-led movies, she's just damn awesome.
Oh, I certainly won't miss out on any female lead Comic book movies. Or Agent Carter (especially not Agent Carter, I am still ridiculous happy that there will be a second season). Or Aka Jessica Jones.
You know what is kind of funny? How much emphasis DC puts on the Joker in their marketing of suicide Squat even though a lot of fans are reluctant to embrace a new one after Heath Ledger. What they all DO love though, is Harley Quinn and the actress they picked for her. And yet DC does very little to use that for their advantage. In their place I would have Harley Quinn plastered over everything, not the controversial Joker.

Yeah, but the one "single promo shot" is of the Joker and they made a big deal about the actor dying his hair.
On a different note, Age of Ultron did well over the second weekend, too. Not as good as The Avengers did back then, but better than anyone else. I wonder if it will eventually settle down below the Avengers, or if it will manage to stay steady longer and make more money nevertheless. I guess it will make a huge jump this week because it opens in China tomorrow.

Excellent. Now to obtain a Shazam, a Mar-vell, and a Monica and have them form the Megazord.
