Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's generally considered bad form to throw out the entire supporting cast between seasons.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The synopsis for Jessica Jones is out.
Seriously, the team-up should be Heroes for Hire, not Defenders.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Captain America wasn't a founding Avenger. Things change in adaptations.
Adding a member to the roster is less extreme of a change than stealing the name of a different team entirely.

I don't think Jessica Jones will be so profit-minded that she won't take a pro bono case if the potential benefits are high enough. Especially if those benefits include things like "New York City will not fall into the ocean".
Not sure how I feel about explicitly setting it in Hell's Kitchen. I think it would be better if each series was mostly set in a different area of New York City (albeit with some overlap), and the Defenders dealt with a city-wide threat.

Yeah, and Molly Hayes has been a Runaway, but if you were to make a movie or show starring Molly Hayes, Patriot, Hawkeye II, Hulkling, Speed, and Wiccan trying to restore the Avengers' name to prominence, calling them the Runaways would be entirely unwarranted.

Yeah, but never for long. The main four Defenders in the comics are Dr.Strange, Hulk, Nighthawk, and Valkyrie, with Namor and Silver Surfer also getting props for being founding/early members. Sure, Luke and Danny each had their own stints on the team, but they were never that important.

I just don't think Hell's Kitchen is big enough for more than one hero. This
◊ is the entirety of its area. Maybe they could make it would be keeping their focus different, but it still feels like a bad start.
Due to Ant-Man the comics are going to have ant sized covers as a tie-in.

I think the main reason I am not too worried about Civil War and by extension Infinity War is that they stick to the writer team which already did the first two Captain America movies and are responsible for Agent Carter. Granted, they also worked on The Dark World, but as far as I understand it they came into the production late in the game and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they were responsible for the half of the movie I love and not for the part which feels lacklustre.
I'm also not worried about Infinity War because it's going to be in two parts, so I really doubt it's going to feel as cramped and rushed as Age of Ultron.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Having Ant-Man confirmed for Civil War is a smart move; it may make people more interested to watch the Ant-Man film knowing it will have ramifications in some way.
Really the Netflix shows feel like The Marvel Knights line to me, but that group of characters never had an in universe name, and Marvel Knights is a little too leaning on the third wall.

I'm curious what they're going to do with Agent Carter this time around. The showrunners said early on that they viewed the One-Shot as the end-all for her TV adventures, but at the same time all the developments of the show make it a strange snapback in terms of status quo, and the early SHIELD era has a lot more storytelling potential.
