Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The problem is that they tried to sell you on Middle Aged accountant Nicolas Cage as a badass supercool stunt driver.
On the topic of renewed shows, the proposed Agents of SHIELD spinoff with Hunter and Mockingbird is apparently cancelled
.
Meh, if it means Agent Carter season 2.

The shield was made out of all the vibranium that existed outside of Wakanda, that Wakanda had evidently given as a gift.
Klau stole/smuggled out a bunch more.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt wasn't clearly explained. Howard Stark did say affirmatively in "First Avenger" that the Vibranium in the shield was the entirety of the worlds supply of the material. It seemed like Klau had found a new deposit or secret stash of the stuff.
I don't know, the details are rather vague on the matter, and it was kind of a jump to go from "Baron Strucker has connections in Wakanda" to "Ultron must want a supply of the awesome-est metal in the world." Especially if Vibranium was as exceedingly rare as originally claimed.
Well, important things first: Agent Carter got renewed! (well, and Ao S, too, but was there ever any doubt). I am so, so happy right now!!!!!
Otherwise...someone said a while back that Ao U is enjoyable if you should down you brain while watching it. I strongly disagree. It is the other way around. The best way to watch Ao U is looking past all the action set-pieces and pay attention to the underlying themes of the movie.
The romance still sucks. But if it weren't there, I would give Ao U the number three spot on my "best MCU movie" list in a second.
Yes! Agent Carter!
About that supposed Civil War leak - most of it doesn't look bad, but Clint's wife dying? Yeah, no, just no. Also, it didn't make any mention of General Ross, who I think is confirmed? Can someone send me a link on that?
Also, this is just me, but I think Cap should die in Civil War. It would at least shut people up about "Marvel movies have no stakes", which is a stupid criticism anyway. Point is, it could have some weight here.

Oh God! Natural light!^^^ I would have to agree with that. I think one reason the opening action sequence didn't appeal to me is that it was banking entirely on the coolness of having the team together rather than the humanity of the actual characters. That's what made the 360 degree pre-battle shot in the first movie so epic, it was them dropping all their pretenses and coming together as one unit. In AOU it was just a fancy shot filled with a lot of special effects.
Whenever the movie slowed down to have the characters talk about their thoughts, opinions and motivations beyond the immediacy of the plot, that's when I felt the movie actually breathed. Maybe a little too much at Hawkeye's farm, but it at least kept my interest.

I don't think it'd be just for feels, though. In the comics, it was just the first part of a whole villainous plot by Red Skull and his gang. Here it might too be for a plot, and would mean a fundamental shift in the MCU. Who becomes the next leader of the Avengers? Will the next guy to wield the shield live up to his legacy?

If they're implementing AOS references, how are they going to fit Glenn Talbot in the MCU proper, since Betty Ross is dating Leonard Samson?
RE: Infinity War
Giving its premise, will they implement Sakaar?
^^ Oh certainly, wasn't arguing the first Avengers was deeper, just maybe a bit better constructed. It's strictly the moments when the characters were trying to advance the plot that I felt the movie floundered. You can see it in the cinematography too, the plot important moments almost always had the camera moving and spinning around (Stark convincing Banner to experiment with the scepter especially stood out). When it became focused on the general themes of the movie and the character bits the camera wasn't always rolling around.
For me AOU stumbles a lot because it is trying to have a deeper plot while still having a lot of superficial action. Everywhere I've looked and everyone I've talked to agrees Vision is the best part of the movie, regardless of how convoluted his origin was. His "birth" scene and final discussion with Ultron were the highlights of the movie.
Given that General Ross and Ant-Man are missing from the leaked Civil War thing, I'm doubting its legitimacy - but I actually like it a lot - except maybe Black Widow's role. I don't like the idea of her betraying Cap and joining Tony. Also RIP Mrs. Hawkeye.
Calling it "Captain America:" Civil War is still ridiculous. It's very clearly going to be Avengers 2.5, with or without this leak being real.

Yeah, I agree there. The Avengers jut does what it does nearly perfectly, which Age of Ultron struggles with keeping it's themes on track, but I kind of can forgive this (mostly) because it is more ambitious overall. And yes, Vision's talk with Ultron is certainly a highlight, and you have to give it to the movie, defeating an evil AI by creating an even more powerful one is an unusual approach. I also dig how they managed to put references to Pinocchio, Frankenstein and the Bible into Ultron's arc.
Re: Civil War: Yeah, I am worried that it might become too much of an Avenger's movie, too, but I have the feeling that a lot of those listed will only be there briefly and the main focus will be on Cap and his feelings concerning the matter.
Oh, and a little update: Ao U has now left Thor the Dark World and Man of Steel behind and it's not even the weekend yet. It is moving up the ladder pretty fast.
I think it would be interesting to see MCU play with and/or deconstruct the Death Is Cheap trope which is common in Marvel and DC.

I would actually love to see Ghost Rider in the MCU. Maybe not Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider (as hamtastic and ridiculous as it is), but maybe like post-Infinity War Mephisto can take over as the Bigger Bad for awhile and they can square off or something.
I mean the first Ghost Rider movie wasn't terrible. It was certainly better than Spider Man 3, at least.
