Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So...I am most likely late with this, but Marvel revealed the synopsis and cast for Civil War. To summon up:
1. The current Avengers team is present, plus Tony and Clint are there (in short every superpowered being in the movies minus Thor and Bruce)
2. The cast from "The Winter Soldier" (Bucky, Sharon, Crossbones) are back, too.
3. Black Panther gets introduced.
4. A really unexpected addition is General Ross.
5. It sounds like at least the start will be close to what happened in the comics.
6. They haven't revealed what Martin Freeman's role will be. I wonder why.

Ant-Man is there, as is apparently is Giant-Man identity. Hmm. Giant-Man was killed by the Pro-Regs in Civil War (not Lang or Pym, Bill Foster). It was viewed by Sharon Carter as the Moral Event Horizon that led her from Pro-Reg to Anti-Reg. Wonder if they'll keep that here...
@Swan Pride: Maybe Ross becomes the Red Hulk? Wishful thinking, I know...
But yeah, the more I hear about it, the more and more this seems like an Avengers film with 'Captain America' slapped on the cover than just a Captain America film. Makes me wonder if the Critics will slap the film in the face for having 'too many characters', seeing as that's one of the most common complaints against Ao U you see going around.

They're really going to have to resort to a Cast Herd to get fit all the characters in without making the film too crowded.
So far I'm seeing it break down as:
- Cap's team (Falcon, Widow, Hawkeye, etc.)
- Tony's team (Rhodey, Vision, Ant-Man, Maria Hill, etc.)
- HYDRA (Zemo, Crossbones, maybe Bucky is back under their thrall)
- Government (Ross, Sharon, maybe the female WSC member)
- T'Challa and his entourage (Ross)
I don't expect either Ross (Note: I never noticed they had the same last name until now, maybe they'll Hand Wave Sharon and Peggy as similarly unrelated) to have significant screentime.

Depends on how they'll handle this. Let's say the incident is related to Steve finding Bucky. Never mind that this time around it won't be some random team which messes up, but the Avengers themselves, lead by Steve (and it is entirely possible that we'll barely get to see them after this).

A deleted scene from The Avengers 2.
Well. Not really.
Since he's no longer working for HYDRA, most likely he'll have a new theme that might incorporate some of the old riffs.
I'm really looking forward to the music for Civil War. I thought Jackman's work on The Winter Soldier was one of the most memorable soundtracks out of all the MCU films, and funnily enough that OST gives me mild vibes from another composer I like, Hiroyuki Sawano (Aldnoah Zero specifically).

Now that we have both Hawkeye and Ant-Man confirmed, I need this scene
◊.
Yep.
His work on X Men First Class was also really fantastic as well.

So Civil War is going to be as long as Return Of The King, right?
That Everett Ross sounds like a really cool character and perfect for Freeman. This might be a stupid question, but I was kind of wondering if there would be a need to address his (not) being related to Thunderbolt Ross.
RE the Natasha discussion, I do see the points made by Tobias Drake and others. Still think the Natasha/Banner romance is kind of random though, especially because in The Avengers, Banner doesn't like her and she's terrified of the Hulk (granted, who wouldn't be?)

Wow, Civil War isn't messing around. This might as well be an Avengers film.
