Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Re: time between the Avengers getting back together: Kind of confused. How can it be a flaw that you have to have watched other movies to keep up with the state of the world, when the confusion started over the other movies not having a nod to the Avengers?
Further, is it really unreasonable to expect that the team-up movie asks that you've seen the individual movies about its members? Especially when this time it's only three as opposed to the five that came before the first Avengers.
I don't mind that they jumped directly into the action. There were some aspects, though, which were a little bit sudden. Mainly Natasha's interest in Bruce (she didn't even mention him during Winter Soldier). But I don't think that it is too much of a leap that they teamed up after the fall of SHIELD.
Even An Android Can Mope.
I'm wondering if they're going to go with the mostly stoic Vision of post-Fear Itself or the more "lively" version from pre-Fear Itself (that got together with Wanda) for the next movies before he's probably ripped apart by Thanos.

That's the fundamental worry of Vision having the Mind Gem. We know Thanos is going to complete the Infinity Gauntlet because, y'know, basic narrative structure, so having it embedded as part of his character means Vision has an estimated lifespan of "Until the next Avengers film."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.@Swanpride- Yeah, that was sort of my problem with the relationship. I dislike/disagree with those comments by Renner and Chris Evans about Black Widow being a slut, but it does kind of seem like the movies have shipped her with one Avenger after the other.
Like I think AOU did a great job of presenting Clint and Natasha as Platnoic Life Partners (and indirectly explained her arrow necklace in Winter Soldier), but The Avengers did kind of give the impression of a romantic relationship between them (even if it was just in the past).
And Winter Soldier teases a romance with Natasha and Steve. It's ambiguous how much she's manipulating him in terms of the romance, but their having a close friendship seems totally legitimate (and you could believably have them still end up romantically involved).
And then in AOU, Natasha is out of nowhere throwing herself at Bruce and the movie basically has Steve retcon the above relationship as just Natasha manipulating him.
Basically, although I thought the writing worked in each film, when you look at them together, it kind of feels like Marvel doesn't know what to do with Natasha.
He wouldn't be the same person then. He's a fusion of parts of Ultron, JARVIS and the Stone so if he dies and his mind isn't saved somewhere he would just be another robot if they rebuilt the body and put the Stone in it. This is partly why Vision lost emotions once after he was destroyed in the comics, the guy his mind was based on didn't want to help them again.
Assuming there's still a Vision to put it back in after Thanos is done prying the Mind Gem from his cold, dead fingers.

Honestly, I have never, ever, thought Natasha was meant to be a romantic interest from Steve in Winter Soldier. I found really bizarre how many people insisted this was the case. I thought I was missing something obvious, although now I guess I was right. I doubt there was any "retcon" there.
I didn't think she was meant to be in a relationship with Hawkeye back in the Avengers either, but in that case I could at last kinda see it.
That just reminded me that Wonder Man is a complete dick.
They'll be shooting Infinity War entirely in IMAX using a new camera
. They say the intent is to bring 10 years of storytelling to a "incredible climax".

Well, it seemed like in that film Widow was interested in a romantic relationship and Steve said he'd prefer a friend- hence their ending up Better as Friends.
I'm not sure if Steve's comments to Bruce in AOU are to indicate that Natasha was being manipulative with the flirting (not sure of the right word- don't mean to give a negative connotation), or that her being Steve's friend is also retroactively fake.
I mean I don't have a huge problem with it all being a lie, since Natasha was basically Steve's Handler in the movie, but I still am iffy on the AOU dialogue used to set up the Bruce and Natasha romance.

I didn't even think there was anything between her and Hawkeye necessarily in the first Avengers. When she said, "Love is for children; I owe him a debt," a lot of people apparently took that line to be Natasha saying, "I will NEVER have romantic feelings for ANYONE, and if you EVER see me even hinting at romantic desire, it's poor character writing!" but I took that line to be, "Hawkeye and I have a close but professional relationship. We might be drinking buddies or something."
With Steve, I'm also not sure how anyone saw that to be anything but an entirely platonic relationship. I've been lauding the film since it came out for depicting an important male/female relationship between its leads as anything other than romance.

And the synopsis.

Well, that actually seems fairly reasonable on the face of it: a global organization that decides whether something has reached the Godzilla Threshold of needing the Avengers to get involved. Whether the danger is severe enough that the good they'd do outweighs the collateral damage.
With the downside being that such an organization might be incorrect in its threat assessment, and the Avengers might still feel the need to intervene even if they weren't wanted.
As an issue where both sides could have a point, it beats the heck out of "mandatory registration and conscription of everyone with superpowers"

Personally, I'm hoping for Elphaba.
