Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The trick is not to actually think about it. Knowing what the consequences are, smile, nod, and go, "Yes, sex with the Hulk is a terrible idea, and Banner was absolutely correct in his insistence that this is not a thing he should ever do."
Because I promise you, Banner has thought about it enough for any of us.

No, sadly I have to settle for a kidney jab.
That was directed at me, yes?
And his sacrifice shall not be in vain.

Oh God! Natural light!I agree that the scene in question was entirely tasteless.
Now, for Mukora's sake, let's change the subject to another topic. On the subject of things that are several feet tall, green, constantly throbbing with pent-up desire and ravenous need, who actually thinks Loki is going to be the main villain of Thor: Ragnarok, as opposed to being supplanted by a bigger villain such as Surtur?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Every time "What if Loki shows up in X", I will always say "only if Loki dies" because I am sick of Loki and Loki fangirls. He needs to die, brutally and pathetically.
My various fanfics. If we want to do a thing that's not just petty greivance, I can see Loki dying, for legit this time (thor can foot drub his corpse and everything), helping defend Asgard against Surtur or whatever Ragnarokandrollish thing is transpiring.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's not even Tell. It's a transparent falsehood.
Loki had every chance in the world to accel, but is too busy being a petty, jealous, and bitter shithead to notice. The only thing he's a victim of is a Grass is Greener mindset towards his brother.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The only real indication that we ever get that Loki was mistreated was him constantly talking about it while in the throes of a massive nervous breakdown. Thor remembers their childhood very differently, though admittedly he is the golden boy of the family. That said, I could definitely buy Odin being a bad dad in general (to both of them, honestly, it's just that only Loki noticed it) - he clearly didn't quite know what he wanted with Loki, and I could see how it would have hurt their relationship.
On the other hand, the only indication we ever get that he was rejected by Asgard as a whole (beyond a deleted scene, which admittedly the movie probably ought to have found a way to include somehow), is how The Warriors Three minus Fandral and largely Sif, pretty much snap to distrusting him the moment they find out he's not on board with Thor not deserving everything he got at the beginning of the movie. Everyone else seemed to like him just fine.
Loki basically convinced himself he needed manipulation and subversion to be accepted by Asgardians, even before finding out he was a Frost Giant. This created a self-fulfilling prophecy that's largely his own fault.

Although such images are difficult to stop thinking about once they've been mentioned. Fortunately, I'm largely immune to this sort of Squick probably due to my carefully neutered existence leaving me little idea what coitus actually looks like (which, for the time being, is how I'd like to keep it).
And yes, that was a thing I just said.
