Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The big thing preventing Kamala Khan from making an appearance is that Carol Danvers hasn't yet become a superhero in the MCU (or even appeared). Also I would be surprised if they have a major Inhumanity event prior to the Inhumans movie (or at least, they won't deal with the full repercussions of the Inhumanity event). Without superpowers or the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel she's basically a random Pakistani-American teenager.
There are ways around it without waiting until Phase 3 wraps up, but it would demand almost entirely throwing out her comic origin story and creating a new one. So her powers could be activated earlier either intentionally or in a localized Inhumanity event. And then she would have a different superhero identity until the Carol Danvers Capitan Marvel does something suitably impressive that becomes public knowledge on Earth, after which Kamala Khan could model her superhero identity after Carol's.

I'm not overly fond of the character but I do feel slightly bad that so many people seem to not be interested because of the past pattern of Marvel movies when it was conceived well before most of them.
I totally get a lot of the complaints about the MCU (hell I made a lot of them!) but at a certain point it feels like Ant-Man gets unfairly scapegoated.
Is Tumblr saying they won't go see Ant Man because Hank Pym is a woman beater or something?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsThis is how I'd do Kamala. Step 1: Introduce Kamala as a supporting character in Captain Marvel. At some point during movie she can meet her and become obsessed possibly after Carol saves her life. 2: In The Stinger show the Terigen Mists descending over New Jersey. She'll get her powers and then one of the Inhumans will show up and take her away. 3: When The Inhumans movie comes out she can be the Naïve Newcomer of the group that they decide to train. At the end of the movie she decides to leave the group and become her own hero. 4: Animated Netflix series.

Tumblr is a massive website full of multiple people so no, but yes, there are some people online saying stuff to that effect.
I never got it either. I think sometimes in the nerd community some fans have a very small reference pool of actors. See the Nathan Fillion phenomenon.

I think Marvel wants to save some properties so they don't completely exhaust their back bench of properties too early on.

Why does it have to be animated? I mean, I don't mind it, but it's a strange fixation to have.
@Higherbrainpattern: Man, I want to be excited for Ant-Man. But so much about it seems like just more of the same. Plus, no Janet. I'll never stop being bitter about that.
Maybe it'll surprise me.
Doctor Strange, though? I don't even want to be excited for that one.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I thoroughly enjoy the poster, though.

I don't think it looks all that interesting, but I said the same thing about Guardians and I couldn't get enough of that ridiculous movie. We'll see.
Quick question about the wife beater thing. Wasn't that just one unfortunate panel in an older comic? Or is there more to it?
And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.Said people on Tumblr are also complaining that they cut Janet out of the film due to deep-seated hatred of women and racism, even though her being non-white is a lot Newer Than They Think and was only ever a thing in Ultimate Marvel (and even then Jeph Loeb seemed to ignore that plot point).
I mean, it is really shitty that she's been left on the cutting floor, and I'd argue there is some level of misogyny involved in the sense of the studio valuing men's stories over those of women's, but I swear these people have never heard of Murphy's Law.

I feel like the tone of Kamala's series is a better fit for an animated series. Shapeshifting is also easier to do in animation.

It keeps getting brought up and the Ultimate Universe recreated it. Unfortunately that bit is one of the things people latch on to when they think of Pym's character.

Again you're gonna find Fan Dumb anywhere so I'm not sure why what people who don't know the character think about it matters much.
And I think I know what post you're referring to and someone ended up rebutting it and pointing out all the factual inaccuracies about Pym.
The unfortunate part is that Pym was simply never a particularly popular Avenger, so that storyline is one of the most memorable and notable ones he's ever been involved in.

It wasn't even a proper example of abuse, he was just being a Large Ham and flailing his arms about without care to Janet's personal space, as opposed to a willful act.
The issues with Pym, from my perspective at least, are the following:
- A lot of people just don't find him that interesting of a character. I think most of this is because when he started out he didn't have a set personality beyond being a scientist and his powers aren't that special.
- Attempts to make him interesting such as giving him mental health issues or making him the creator of Ultron tend to portray him as a failure.
- Because of 1 and 2 writers don't bother using him much unless they're referencing or recreating one of the stories associated with him. Unfortunately those stories involve him either creating Ultron or having a breakdown and hitting his wife.

Also fucking Mark Millar turning the abuse thing up to eleven while in the middle of ruining the tone of the ultimate universe from the get go.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's what's happened on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Two nascent Inhumans got exposed to a batch of the Mist, while an Inhumans colony (seemingly unrelated to the royals) has crystals on hand that they use carefully to give select members of their community powers.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.

Same here. Her being in the Captain Marvel stinger would be too perfect!
When we're done, there won't be anything left.
