Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If anyone wants to know a little more about Yelena without checking a wiki
(also the Sentry is still Marvel's worst Superman expy).
If you say so. It just felt like the Avengers were casually tearing right through his army and Ultron himself? Zapped a little, knocked away and then ragdolled offscreen by Hulk and then offed by Scarlet Witch.
Maybe its just me, but he just didn't impress me. Even when he was choking Thor, it was the setup for a joke.
I guess I just prefer the EMH version myself.
I know Fury was shown earlier, but I felt the Helicarrier could've been better set up considering the ending of Winter Soldier.
Ok, who let Light Yagami in here?Taking time out of the fight to try and minimize the casualties is a time-honored superhero tradition. Iron Man did it in all of his movies. Thor, the Warriors Three Plus Sif, and the Scientists Three did it in his movies. Even the Hulk and Rocket Raccoon did it. It's a thing superheroes do.

Who is the best Superman expy?
Like, is it Gladiator and his silly romper suit or Hyperion? Sun-god? Clearly not Sentry clearly.
I actually have a friend who really appreciates that the MCU is taking the time to show that superheroing is about saving people as much as it is about punching ridiculous people in their ridiculous faces.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo it is a mohawk? I've never been sure whether it was a helmet or not.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's a shame about the Sentry because there's actually some fairly interesting things you could do with a Deconstruction of Superman, as Irredeemable and Icon have shown.
The problem is the writers seemed to only be capable of every writing endless variations of the same plot for him: "The Avengers are in peril. Sentry can help but is screaming and sobbing hysterically because of his mental illness. The Avengers get beaten up and almost die. At the last second Sentry intervenes and saves everyone."

Yes!
Prioritizing saving lives is what makes them superheroes. Without that, it's just a super-powered gang war.

It's funny because his story ends with Thor throwing his bones into the sun.
I loved the emphasis on rescuing people and keeping the collateral damage as low as possible. They had scenes like this in the first Avengers, too, but they got mostly cut so we were left with the waitress (though it might be a good thing not to see Sousa die in 2012....). This was kind of like the Anti-Man of Steel. There have been traces of this in prior movies (like Black Widow screaming at civilians to get out of the way), but this movie felt like the team shouldn't call themselves "the Avengers" but "The Protectors".
Saw Age of Ultron. Liked it a lot. Bit disappointed Falcon only showed up at the very end and wasn't involved in the fight against the Iron Legion. Loved Ultron as a villain — he's basically just evil Tony Stark. Reminds me a lot of Hades, in a way. Loved Wanda and Pietro, but mostly Wanda. Loved Clint getting some more character depth. Bit disappointed in the after-credits scene (that's not a spoiler, right? I mean, it's in every movie). Loved the Vision, though I wish they'd actually start naming superheroes on-screen for once; at least Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy have that going for them.
Overall, very nice. Tenouttaten.
"We're home, Chewie."TWO BUILDINGS. SUPERMAN HIMSELF KNOCKED DOWN TWO EMPTY BUILDINGS. MOST OF THE DESTRUCTION WAS CAUSED BY THE WORLD ENGINE, WHICH SUPERMAN WAS NOT THERE TO STOP, BECAUSE HE WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FUCKING PLANET, DEALING WITH THE OTHER FUCKING MACHINE. STOP FUCKING ACTING LIKE SUPERMAN PERSONALLY DESTROYED EVERY BUILDING IN METROPOLIS AND RAPED ALL THE ORPHANS WHILE FIGHTING ZOD.
Sorry.
Sorry.
I'm good.
My various fanfics.

Considering Fury had popped up earlier in the movie, it was hardly a stretch. And all it did was help them evacuate the civilians, not beat Ultron for them.
I didn't really feel that Ultron was an anti-climax boss. They weren't hanging onto life by their fingertips but neither was it a sunday drive.
The trouble was in having to split their attention between robot apocalypse and giant rock and civilian protection.
