Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Quicksilver too OP yo. It may well have been a condition of the deal that Marvel worked out with Fox though. Seems plausible for a random guess
Really made up for his almost non-presence in the first one

Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo Hulk was indeed supposed to transform into the Gray Hulk
, but this was nixed for some reason.
x4
From what I understand of the Marvel/Fox deal, both studios can freely use both characters. It's just that Marvel can't ever describe them as mutants or the children of Magneto (which apparently they aren't in the comics anymore, but that wasn't the case when the deal was struck).
I would speculate that Marvel simply decided that they wanted to focus on the Scarlet Witch character because she is much more in line with the mystical direction the series is headed then her brother. In addition it means that they could have a female superhero with genuine superpowers in the Avengers well ahead of Captain Marvel's introduction in 2018 (while she might be introduced as a character earlier, I doubt she'll have her powers any sooner then part 1 of Infinity War).
Furthermore, out of the two twins, Wanda was always the one who were more connected to the Avengers, while Pietro was somewhat closer to the X-people (I don't remember if he was even an X Men, but he have been around with the X-Factor). So the way Fox and Marvel split things ended up very fitting.
Oh yeah, Quicksilver quit the Avengers to make out with Crystal and have angry skype calls with Wanda about her dating Vision
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe Cap's kooky quartet stuff is fun. Uh, Vision's introductory arc. The arc where Quicksilver left is the one where a mutant sentinel tries to destroy humanity using the almighty power of Wanda's uterus.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Very Melon and Turckescreator who actually posted the video : That video has a very apt analysis without running afoul of either "seeing things where there are none" or "stating the obvious", which is astoundingly rare these days. Great video.
Though I'd say Marvel's strength lies in precisely knowing how to explore those themes. The first Avengers, Winter Soldier, Age of Ultron (and later, Civil War) all have varying degrees of exploration for the nature of heroism.
Also the video contains some personal irony for me because the video states Hulk's heroism is based on asceticism. Asceticism is my personal philosophy. Hulk is my least favorite Avenger. Kind of illogical, isn't?

"All you Fascists bound to lose."My brother and I just got back from seeing the movie. I liked it. The "artificial intelligence" debate was pretty well done, though the need for U Ltron to be the coordinator of the Iron Legion was questionable. Jarvis already did a good job controlling them, why can't he do the others?
I also really liked the battle at the beginning. HYDRA's still got more than its fair share of cool toys. I also enjoyed it whenever the Maximovs got smacked down (while they were evil, at least).
Ultron was a pretty good character too. A good amount of menace and intimidating stature but I believed he was being hypocritical when he called Vision naive. Dude, your literal first decision upon gaining sentience was go make humanity extinct. He also didn't really seem that intelligent, he seemed more like just a developmentally-challenged adult throwing a temper tantrum.

That is very true to the comics though

Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Heath: Roy Thomas' entire 60+ issue run. Just about everything we know about the Avengers today — Vision, Black Widow, Black Panther, Black Knight, (starting to see a trend?) and Hercules joining up; Quinjets; Vision and Wanda's romance; Hank Pym's mental breakdowns; Ultron; and just an all around classic sense of epic adventure — that all really started when Roy came onboard, and many later writers followed his lead. (Like Kurt Freaking Busiek.) When it comes to the Avengers, Thomas is the franchises' real daddy, and even if the dialogue can come across as corny by todays' standards, (albeit in often unintentionally hilarious ways, so it has that going for it,) it's worth checking his stuff out. He even came back to the series a ways down the line in the early 90's, doing a good 40+ issues of Avengers West Coast; it's not as good as his original run, but it's still pretty good, and since his wife was handling the dialogue by that point, that's more natural than the first run too.
Also, the Steve Englehart runs from around the same times are also classics in their own rights. And Jim Shooter. And the early David Micheline stuff. And... basically, just about everything up until the 80's. There's some good stuff after that, (like Roger Stern and Busiek,) but the late 60's through the mid 70's is when Avengers really hit it's stride; on the recent 'Top 50 Avengers Stories', most of the stories came from that period. It's all collected in the Essential Avengers TB's too, so if you don't mind a lack of color, they're well worth the purchase.

@Bojac,
...Well, a woman's uterus is a powerful thing
after all.
Anyway, thanks. Not sure if the silly descriptions is just you being you or comics being comics, but sounds fun nonetheless.
Edit:
Thanks you too Evil Santa! (you guys all posted kinda fast)

One of my favorite Hawkeye moments in the movie, and there's plenty to choose from. He was really great in this one.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.
