Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So my girlfriend hadn't seen Cap 2 and we're going to the midnight showing of Avengers 2 here, as such we just watched Cap 2.
Does it bother anyone else that Cap's speech did nothing? Hydra still managed to pre-empt the launch sequence, they still managed to board the carriers with all their guys, they still managed to open the bay doors as soon as they needed to, there wasn't even a single fight where the people Cap inspired actually helped out, all they did was get mown down by Hydra.
It seems like such a lost opportunity, I'm not asking for something Spiderman style where the hero gets saved by inspired people, but I just wish they'd done something useful. They could have stopped the carriers from launching long enough for Cap and Falcon to make it downstairs, kept Hill secure in her little room, stopped some inbound aircraft from getting in Cap and Falcon's way, forced Hydra to open the bay doors manually instead of automatically, just something!
Anyway that's my little rant over, I've got just over 3 hours till Avengers 2 so I'll be back to read everyone's spoilers for that afterwards.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranFor what it's worth it produced a For Want Of A Nail situation where those few precious seconds he gained from the guy not pushing the button made the difference.
I think it's possible that they would have faced resistance from both Hydra and SHIELD if he hadn't made that speech.
Oh God! Natural light! One nice thing I noticed is that the one Shield member who doesn't follow Rumlow's order to start the launch sequence in Winter Soldier also appears in Ao U. Though I don't remember in which scenes, I'm sure I've seen his face.
Yeah, that guy.

Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveThat nitrogen and metal door thing would be a good Mythbusters test.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAvengers Age of Ultron was damn good.
Though, having not seen 3D movie since the Hobbit I was taken aback by the incredibly low frame rate, took some getting use to. (Why is Hollywood still using 24fps in 3D? It's effectively 12fps for each eye).
But yes, Ultron was an insanely watch-able character. One I hope to return. I also really appreciated the performances which gave us Quicksilver and Vision.
Also, there are A LOT of fight scenes, like, I was surprised by just how much action there was in there. All of them where worthwhile though. Regardless of anything else, this film is incredibly fun.
I thought all the character arcs made sense. Special note to Natasha: This is by far the most human we've seen her. I'm sure that will rub people the wrong way, but her interactions with Banner/Hulk just made sense to me. After Winter Solider her being more human felt earned. And Hulk leaving her at the end seemed very fitting considering WHAT A DICK move she pulled on Banner and special note on Vision I thought his look was really, really good, and Paul's performance further enhanced it, but he comes in so late in the plot with little time left to dedicate to him, so as great as he is, I'm not sure if the plot justified his existence, and in the end this can make him come across as a bit of a Crystal Dragon Jesus. (Which to be fair, he is in the comics)
Honestly the thing I think I liked the most about this film was just seeing the Avengers be friends.
I take it that Ultron is in a position to return, then? (I really shouldn't be on here).
I actually found him to be kind of eh. I thought the reviewers were exaggerating but he's really left in the dust (pun intended) by more interesting characters.
He does get some cool action scenes but they wisely opted not to try anything to one-up the DOFP scene.

Whedon talks a little bit more about AOS
and reiterates why the cast members don't actually appear in the movies.
I've been starting to wonder recently if despite their best intentions the MCU and its tv shows might end up in a similar situation as Star Wars and its tv shows - like a "levels of canon" sort of situation.
Though given what we were told about the Defenders recently, its possible that that's only an issue with Agents of Shield, which does make a bit of sense: Since the very beginning, AOS has been about doing its own thing first and connecting to the rest of the universe second. Not that it's flagrantly defying the setting or anything, and it's gotten a lot better at that sort of thing since Season 2, but there are the occasional things that I wondered as I watched whether or not they can fly in the greater MCU - stuff that's big plotwise that the movies probably won't corroborate in the case that they would have to because they might not work in the long run (or because the films have luckily moved on from caring about those plot ponts).
Depending on what happens with Cap 3, how they dealt with HYDRA might be another sticking point in the coming years.

Daredevil likewise avoids problems entirely, mostly because it focuses on building on a niche that the the MCU has nothing in and probably won't for a while (I think another issue is that Ao S doesn't handle worldbuilding all that well). The other Netflix shows are probably going to be the same.

Probably remade his original gauntlet after The Thanos Quest if I had to guess since that's the story of him hunting down the Gems before defeating the Silver Surfer and the Infinity Gauntlet story.
