Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Official confirmation of the Universal rights issues regarding Hulk solo films. This is something people've been saying here for a while, but nice to finally have official word on this.

Marvel's youtube channel is about to show the official Age of Ultron Red Carpet premiere; Not that it matters, but the music playing in the video right now must be the Avengers theme that's been modified by Danny Elfman.

Hey, Rhodes was in the last Age of Ultron clip. That's cool.

Here's the other:

This'll do nothing to calm down the shippers.

So, the problem with solo Hulk movies is that, while Marvel can produce it to their heart's content, Universal has to distribute it. And Disney definitely won't allow it.

That's... well...

Goddammit.

Corporate shenanigans. What you gonna do? Marvel sort of made a hash of things when they farmed out their movie rights in the early days.

[up]X3 Pretty sure that ship is touring the riviera right now.

And I say that while hating shipping.

Quick, who's a good character outside of Hulk's mythos for Banner to appear in a duo movie in either as a major or at least strong supporting character, such that their plots would work well together, they could develop both characters through the interaction, and the plot won't be contrived?

That's not Tony, that is.

[up] The only ones that come to mind are The Thing and Wolverine.

Unfortunately, they're not valid options.

[up][up][up] But in a purely non-romantic sense, the scene works, because it feels like a natural extension of the relationship they've already established.

[up][up][up]There really aren't a lot of options right now. Unless they did something like Planet Hulk for GOTG 2.

It doesn't bother me at all! I'm just surprised how crowded the productions of these movies seem to be, and moving out from one movie to the next.

They have Avengers AOU promotion to be doing in April/May, so the early Civil War filming will be minor stuff, nothing to do with Cap or Iron Man or any of the Avengers really.

Chris Evans must be exhausted, in between coming immediately off of the Age of Ultron press junket and all that working out to buff himself up.

And also getting drunk backstage at Jimmy Kimmel Live. [lol]

EDIT: Dang, who the heck is Linda Cardellini playing?? She was up on stage with the entire main cast, almost all of which have superpowers.

Based on longstanding rumors, some of the nonspoiler comments I've seen from press, and some choice background details in the shots taking place inside Clint's farm, I'm guessing she'll be Hawkeye's wife.

EDIT: I have a feeling this movie is going to sink Clintasha ultra-hard. I'm still not really feeling Hulk/Widow but I pity for the ten people who do ship it because they're about to behold the wrath of a tsunami.
