Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Marvel doesn't seem to want that.
Spidey's their go-to Coming of Age superhero, the one they like to use to tell stories about that transitional period from teenager to adulthood. I think if you were to propose Adult Spider-Man Who Has His Life Together to them, they would hear it as, "Why not use Captain America already unfrozen from the life and completely adjusted to the modern world?" or "Why not use the Hulk with complete control over his abilities who never freaks out or suffers ill effects as a consequence?"
In short, they would hear, "Why not use this character at the very end of all of his development when all of his engaging stories have been told and there's nothing interesting left to do with him?" and they would think you're crazy. To Marvel, the rigors of adulthood are a story for their other characters, and Spider-Man's all about the challenges of growing up itself.

Besides, if we have an adult Peter running around, people will constantly be asking what the hell he was doing in the other movies. With a teenage Peter, you could conceivably say that he only became Spider-Man around Winter Soldier at the earliest.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryI generally prefer an older, college-aged Peter that has a firm and confidant grasp on his role as a hero and responsibility and stuff. I like my characters mature and experienced, not young and reckless and impulsive.
But that may just be because I'm a college-aged person rather than a fifteen year old kid so I look up to and identify with a different kind of Spider-Man that a fifteen year old kid would, so I get it.
Honestly, ever since nerd culture started to dominate multimedia in the form of Game of Thrones or the MCU or countless other stuff - whatever made Peter Parker cool to me as a kid, the fact that he was this young, nerdy loser guy, has worn off because now you're a loser if you aren't a nerd in some small way.

Hmm so I guess they are bringing back Iron Man's theme from the third movie. I liked the first movie's score more but I'm not complaining, since it's the same guy who did IM 3 after all.
Also, the fact that people are still surprised that we have trailers for trailers amuses me.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI don't remember seeing a trailer trailer that was so shamelessly a trailer for a trailer. Like, I do remember seeing many short trailers created as anticipation for the real trailer. But none of them had a voice saying "come tomorrow for actual trailer". The fact they had someone to record that is what surprises me. I thought these trailer trailers were just a bunch of scenes cut from the actual trailer.
I am also relatively annoyed by these marketing shenanigans.
But it really is not a new thing, and I'm surprised people are still surprised.
...Trailer.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIf they do it for a first trailer...okay. I have a hard time to take it serious, but okay. But for a second one? Please.
Concerning the age of Spider-man: I assume that they want to do multiple Spider-man movies. Time in the MCU is more or less as fast as real time. It just makes sense to start with a character as young as possible, so that they can use the character in question as long as possible. If the MCU keeps going strong and Sony has success too with Marvel's help, there will be Spider-man movies for the next 10-15 years at the very least. Meaning when they start with a 15 year old, they end up with a guy in the late 20s at the very least. Would they start with Spider-man in an advanced age he would be in his 50s before we can blink.
An older Spider-man would be interesting for a stand-alone movie, but for the MCU, it makes sense to start young so that they have all the options in the world.
The Purple Man looks to be just dressed in purple for the TV series.

Also that Hulk vs Hulkbuster clip makes me sort of interested if they are taking things from Kieron Gillen's Iron Man run what with the armory in the sky(which Gillen!Iron Man used to modify his suit whenever he needed to solve different tasks like putting on a better laser hand when coming up with a way to get around a shield that his current suit couldn't just blast down).

That's a pretty great trailer.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveAwwwww yeah, now that is a trailer to be proud of.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI love how they can make Ant-Man exciting and dramatic without changing the basic premise of what he is. Like, you hear that he can shrink and control ants, and your first impulse is to think, "Ha! That's so lame!" But then you see it in action and realize it's actually pretty awesome.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. The size-changing looks very good. When he's taking on Yellowjacket all tiny-like he looks like he's fighting an earth-shatteringly huge kaiju.

Well ideally he wouldn't make those same mistakes.
