Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Flashback "Real" S.H.I.E.L.D. was pretty badass, it's present "Real" S.H.I.E.L.D. that feel like a pack of punks looking to get a punch to the face.

I think it is just a matter of time until Bobbi deflects from this bunch of losers.

Taking inspiration from the Raid is a very good thing, as it's what made the fights in Winter Soldier so good.

I don't believe in any reviews which are getting posted today.

If the interview contained a bunch of outrageous stuff like "Daredevil is now an Inhuman and he's not blind and it turns out his father was Ultron" I'd be skeptical, but nothing there is really raising any alarms.

Yeah, the show won't even be out until the 10th. Unless they did an advance screening or something, who would be reviewing it?

...

It also just occurred to me that today is April 1st.

Reviewers/critics do get advanced screening of television shows, just like they do movies.

Let me just add that Daredevil is a very violent and, at times, a gory show. Even though the series lacks cursing (very rare if memory serves me right), and nudity (though there is one incident of side-boob), it does depict stabbings, torture, and decapitations. I’d think twice before letting the young ones watch with you.

So it sounds like they're thankfully not going the Game of Thrones route with that MA rating.

They're... not? Is Game of Thrones not violent and gory? The books certainly were.

Okay. Now I wonder how many people seriously though that was ever going to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I'm getting incredibly excited here. I think I'm more hyped for Daredevil than I am for Age of Ultron.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

"It’s everything Nolan’s Batman never had time to explore, and everything Arrow wishes it could be."

Shots fired. I don't watch Arrow, but my general perception of it is a show trying so hard to be Batman and has its fans because it's the closest we'll get to a live-action Batman show.

It needs to be April 10th right now.

[up]Well, given season 3 of Arrow has been a poorly-written mess, I have a feeling Daredevil is fixing to completely emasculate it.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

To be honest, Arrow Season 3 was screwed from its very first episode when it killed off the Sara Lance/Canary character, who was a fan-favorite as well as an LGBT character on the show (she's bi).

I like the line about it including MCU references "With far less thud than Agents of SHIELD". I like honoring the concept of a shared universe but some of the references in SHIELD just get annoying.
