Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If written well, Scarlet Witch could easily become one of my favorite characters in the MCU ( although I'm still convinced that Whedon will infantilize her in an attempt to make her into a River Tam Expy).
At least, she looks so badass in the promos, almost like a force of nature.
I mean, I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with the River character archetype, it's just that it's a huge mismatch for Scarlet Witch in particular. Especially since she's been Flanderized so much as a madwoman in the comics, and I don't want him to bring that aspect back after all the work Heinberg did trying to save her character in Children's Crusade just because of Author Appeal or whatever.
I think it depends on whatever Character Development she gets. For instance if she's still portrayed as completely out of her mind then that begs the question of why the Avengers would want someone that potentially dangerous on their team.
Hell, even within works some powers are just rule breakers. Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch's magic in the comic are always pretty high end compared to other Marvel powers. Pillar Man instant absorption of organic matter trumps most things outside of Gold Experience Requiem or other chronokinetic Stands.

The Pillar Men's absorption power works by secreting digestive fluids onto the people they're eating, so Iron Man would probably be untouchable, plus he can easily build UV blasters into his suit. Hulk's skin is probably resistant to acid baths and stuff like that.
Although, the Pillar Men shouldn't have been able to eat anyone wearing clothes then (unless it's because clothes count as organic). Not like Jojo's famous for its consistency.

okay, it is official: Ao S has found its footing, big time. Really, the people who don't watch don't know what they are missing out on. Not sure what changed, it's, as far as I can tell, not the writing staff, but this last episode was yet another game-changer. CW can keep Arrow and Flash. I'll happily settling down with Ao S and (hopefully) more Agent Carter.
At this point, what exactly is Coulson's SHIELD? The same as it originally was, except much much smaller? Now an organization dedicated to combatting HYDRA? Or something like Fury's personal mini-army for good/grey morality? And that's not even getting "Real SHIELD" into all of this.

Sorry you were asking about Coulson's. Pretty much a smaller more personal SHEILD that is willing to take less collateral damage and is focused on fighting HYDRA. Fury's left them to their own devices really.
"Real" SHEILD are a bunch of people who chosen to ignore Fury's (out of date) orders during the fall and settled on a more democratic form of leadership (committee instead of director) and have since the fall been sailing around and infiltrating Coulson's team because they don't trust him due to Coulson being Fury's chosen successor and having alien blood in him.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWhat I know of Scarlet Witch is basically a similar character to Teen Titans's Jinx. So the powerset is ending up completely different from what I was expecting, and sounding like a Jean Grey.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I just know one thing: I wanted to do the "best scene of the episode" poll on Spoiler TV and I finally clicked on most of the options plus others for three which weren't listed because this ep was full of great scenes. A perfect mix of action scenes, funny moments, thoughtful moments, dramatic moments....Hunter just became one of my favourite characters and he was barely in the episode. In fact, the time in which I had to say "yeah, I like this and that character, but the rest is just kind of there" is now officially over. I like them all, and I can't wait what will happen next. They now have set up no less than six different fractions Coulson's people, the wannabe Shield, Wards band of misfits, Hydra, the government and the Inhumans and it is just a joy to see it.
There is nothing tedious about the current storyline, at least not for me. I get where Bobbi and company are coming from. They are wrong, but I get it.

I like the Tron lines and Clint's new costume because it's a neat visual way of showing their characters changing from SHIELD agents to costumed heroes.
