Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

No, no, no. What Marvel should do is metaphorically kiss and make up with Capcom, so that we have Final Justice be done on screen.

[Hugo Weaving] wanted to try being in a superhero movie to see if they would interest him(since he's in the stage of his life where he wants to try new things or be picky about what he is going to do).
He played the title character in V For Vendetta before he was in Captain America, and it was fantastic. That doesn't count as a superhero movie? (More of an antihero movie, I suppose.)
Well V for Vendetta is more of a political thriller than a superhero movie, to be honest. The movie's actually a lot more recognized for its political commentary (for better and for worse) than for any connection to superheroism.

Shame Capcom isn't nearly as good as it used to be, because I would love to see RDJ with a Proton Cannon
. I hope Marvel follows Korra's example and start recruiting talented developers to make game adaptations for them.

@Raza: If it weren't for the fact that the first movie hammered it as far as they could that the Ten Rings weren't anywhere near as powerful and influential as they thought they were, Raza being Vanko's backer instead of Hammer (or at least having a larger role beyond a Word of God cameo) might've been an interesting plot.
Though it's just as well. "Revenge of the prior villain" plots aren't anywhere near as effective in films as they are in series that get more installments.

If we distract him with a Captain America game, that'll keep him far away from Metroid.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersUltimate Spider-Man also references Marvel Vs Capcom every once in a while, like a part in the episode where he joins the Avengers where he basically turns into Mv C Spidey right down to the Spider-Sting.
If we're going to see any Mv C moves in the MCU, I want it to be the Maximum Spider. Though I already do a thing where I shout out the name of a move if the characters do something that looks like it (Thor totally does the Mighty Tornado and Mighty Punish against the Destroyer in his first movie
).
So with that tv spot I'm finally starting to notice that while Marvel is giving us a tiny bit more with each spot, it's always little bits of the same two or three scenes with very little outside of them. Which always gets me a bit more excited, because it probably means there's stuff they're intentionally trying to avoid letting us know about.

I...don't think that Kojima has had anything to do with Metroid. At all.

Eh, he'll just restart.
He doesn't. Some people in the Metroid thread have been talking about a hypothetical where Kojima directs a Metroid game to follow up on that Federation corruption stuff.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKojima doesn't handle female characters super great and I'm not crazy about the Federation corrupt plot anyway since it feels like an umpteen other things. Especially since the plot was poorly handled in Other M, which just rehashed Fusion's plot but set it earlier and dumber.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe full cover to the new Avengers got revealed btw: Lady Thor, Captain!Falcon, Iron Man, Miles Morales!Spider-Man, Sam/Kid!Nova, Ms. Marvel and Vision.
That's because it's a lazy story. "Remember that guy who already got defeated? We couldn't think of anything to put here, so now he's back for another crushing defeat while we come up with a real villain for next week's episode!" Raza's return would basically be exactly that: the guy who couldn't even be a credible threat to an unarmored Stane is back to take down Iron Man! The suspense, as audiences try to figure out how he could possibly think he stands a chance! The mystery, as audiences wonder why we would film this!
Ultimately, few studios want to spend three to five years in development and $200 million on the film equivalent of an anime Filler Episode.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's one of the frequent complaints about the first three X-Men movies (though obviously they did eventually get better with this later what with the Hellfire Club, the Sentinels and now Apocalypse in the recent movies). You have this whole rich rogues gallery of villains you could use and you keep going back to the Magneto and the Brotherhood well.
I do think the MCU could handle it slightly better with a team like the Masters of Evil though since that's a different dynamic than just bringing back an old bad guy again.
The fact that practically all of them are Legacy Characters plus Vision reminds me heavily of Young Avengers. Also the fact that half of them are teens.

The funny thing I realized is everyone keeps trying to assure people via interviews that Hawkeye has a bigger role and won't be wallpaper like last time, but he's the only returning Avenger who doesn't speak in the trailers. I think the only time we've heard him talk was the TV spot and the extended trailer with the party scene from a few months ago.
