Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They were thinking, "Well, we already got our Superman, now it's time to do Crisis on Infinite Worlds. Clearly the MCU's success is not an indication that people are interested in our characters on their own merits; we must ape everything our Distinguished Competition has ever done."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Its funny because DC is copying Marvel copying DC.
But it goes deeper. This is all leading to Secret Wars which was Marvel's initial copying DC's Crisis but more in 'company wide crossover.'
So now they're copying the 'multiverse gets wiped out' from Crisis and calling the end result Secret Wars which is what their original Crisis copy was called and DC is copying the multiverse gets wiped out thing from Marvel from DC.
Comics!

Shit like that is exactly how we got Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game!

Large swathes of the multiverse being wiped out.
Imagine, a new JLA/Avengers where Eternity and Kismet meet while recovering from grievous bodily harm at the hospital.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJust wanted to ask a sincere Daredevil-related question, did anyone complain when Fox announced that they casted Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kingpin for Daredevil?
Also, Kelly Sue De Connick potentially writing the Captain Marvel movie? Yes please!

I don't remember that much. There were a few rumblings from some people who thought the Kingpin being Race Lifted into a Scary Black Man had racist implications, but according to Word of God it was just because he was the tallest person for the job. Whatever it was, I doubt it compares to the reactions over Jamie Foxx Electro, where you've got both racists livid that "the SJ Ws turned Electro into a n****r!" and people on the other side upset that they made it so a black man was playing the villain. I don't know enough about Ultimate Electro to know if it really was a Race Lift or not, but it would be pretty hilarious if all this rage was being generated over Cowboy BeBop at His Computer.

Given the source of that rumor I'm naturally very skeptical. However one of the convenient things about Carol Danvers being a fighter pilot in her backstory is that it's very easy for her character to cameo in any movie that includes a large scale threat, even if they haven't cast the role. So I'm definitely not ruling out an Age of Ultron cameo.

Ah. For some reason, I pictured some people have gone "Argh! They didn't get his skin color right! Fail!" or something like that.
Sooo...
Anyone particularly hyped for Ant-Man and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang? I really don't know the general consensus for him. Is it a case of "If he's got a good director, he's good" or what?
EDIT: Has Paul even read Marvel Comics before?

I'm thinking Rhodey might make mention of a Lt. Danvers flying out to deal with the Ultron menace, even if she doesn't necessarily show up on screen. Would be a much better way to segue into a possible Rhodey/Carol romance than the comics where it seemed to come out of nowhere.
As for De Connick writing, I'm kind of lukewarm on that. She's not bad, definitely miles above Jason Aaron and his cringeworthy run on female Thor, but I still find her Carol kind of bland. And the retconning away of some of Carol's flaws which made her more interesting like her alcoholism (which could've gotten a better treatment in the films than Iron Man 2 did) doesn't sit well with me.

Wait, you mean they don't mention it at all or they just flat out said "Oh yeah, she never had an alcohol problem"?
...And I thought I heard good stuff about her run on Captain Marvel.
Also, to avoid a previous question of mine getting buried, allow me to ask this again:

More or less forgotten, even though it was a serious problem she had to deal with. Supposedly Carol is still supposed to have problems with addiction but whatever they are I feel like it's not being conveyed very well.
Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but I feel like it could've been a lot more, y'know? Carol is fun but a little generic, when they could've used the chance to really redefine her the way Brubaker did with Bucky, or Fraction did with Hawkeye.
Well since she exists in the same setting as Tony Stark though its just defining her in a way someone else already is.
Unless they go to support group together. That would be swell.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI hate to make it sound like I'm asking the same question over and over, but really...
Paul Rudd as Scott Lang.
Yay or Nay?
A look at the new Iron Man suit from the final battle
◊. Looks pretty sick.
I'm just glad they fixed the coloring on it after that atrocious Mark 42.
God that thing was ugly.

What the heck were they thinking with the incursion plotline? It's the most absurd extent of serial escalation.
