Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

(On that note, I'd love it if they had Spidey as a reserve Avenger, like he was in the comics for the longest time. Like, he's not part of the team proper, but when things really hit the fan, they call on him and the other reserves)
I got around to watching Winter Soldier and I thought it was great. I did't think I'd like Cap again since A vs X, but this turned it around for me. The character development, the acting and the action scenes were excellent. There's a good mix of comedy and tradgedy in there. It also made me care about the Falcon... a character I've been indifferent to my whole life. I think this movie has the best fight scenes in the MCU. I haven't liked a superhero movie this much since the first Iron Man.
I have mixed feelings about Spiderman being in the MCU. On one hand, Spidey would probably boost ticket sales and I like him. On the other hand, him being there takes away from classic avengers. Characters that were with the team for 30-50 years. When I think of Spiderman, I see him as a loner. Someone who works solo or maybe with Daredevil taking on the Kingpin, Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus. Not the cosmic threats the Avengers often deal with.

Marvel Comics are teasing their post-Secret Wars Avengers team.
◊ Since this thread likes talking about how the MCU team might look after Ao U I thought it a good idea to post this here since the comics are becoming more like the MCU with every month.
- Ms. Marvel
- New!Thor
- Sam!Nova
- Captain!Falcon
- Rescue/Iron Woman
- Dr. Strange/Vision/Hyperion/???
- Spider-Man(Miles while Peter gets his own solo book as usual)

So, based on the premise, the silhouette, and the fact that he officially became an Avenger in the comics recently, who doesn't think the bottom right guy is Nova?
Because he's clearly Nova. I don't know why they bothered to silhouette him.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I wonder about Kamala's home situation if she can get away with being an Avenger now. Or in the future, rather.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI just worry about how many newcomers are being spotlit.
I'm all for new characters, but given that this is post-universe shattering, I'm worried they're going to borrow the Ultimate Universe's trend of killing off all the older generation supers and going "WHOOPS, EVERYONE DIED, guess the Ultimates Avengers will have to be all these new guys instead!" every three years.
Come to think of it, with both Thor and Cap having surrendered their mantle to a Legacy Character and Stark left inverted in the wake of Axis, every corner of the Big Three is shattered. Mix in Ant-Man and Wasp being Ant-Man and Wasp, and the Hulk is the only Founding Avengers Plus Cap left.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Ant-Man's been in a consistent state of f*cking off and occasionally coming back to be part of a story that reminds us all why he f*cks off so frequently for many years. His last attempt at relevancy was during Avengers AI, which was hilarious for the character of Doombot but otherwise pretty bland. Before that was Avengers Academy which was spectacular but not really for Hank. He has a bad habit of being the least engaging thing in anything he's in.
Wasp had a time-baby that got unwritten from existence with Cyclops's brother Havok and then Havok was evil and kidnapped her.
They're both still around, but neither has really done anything of merit in a very long time. At this point, they're pretty much tertiary characters at best.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Wasp and Havok had a baby in an alternate future during Uncanny Avengers where all humanity was exterminated and only mutants survived. They helped Kang unwrite the bad timeline, but it also unwrote their baby from existence, so they got back together and tried to recreate their baby. Then they turned evil in Axis, then Jan was turned back at the end of Axis but Havok, like Tony Stark mentioned above, was left still evil and he abducted Jan and fled with her.
So, I guess we're left to assume that right now, Inverted Havok's trying to rape a baby out of Jan or something. I don't know, it's stupid. The Avengers franchise has been shit since the likes of Hickman and Remender took over.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't follow X-Men (although I've started listening to this podcast all about "explaining" the X-Men- check it out), but what's the point of having Havoc as evil. As I understand it, Cyclops is evil (well, an Anti-Villain) at this point. Why two evil Summers brothers?
Because different writers. Remender probably has somewhere he intends to go with Evil Havok. It will probably be every bit as stupid as the Apocalypse Twins storyline that led up to Axis and the Kid Apocalypse storyline he was writing before that. It will probably involve Apocalypse in some way. Maybe Havok becomes the new Apocalypse. Maybe the time baby does.
Meanwhile, Bendis is largely handling the "Cyclops is New Magneto" storyline.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.We don't know yet. Probably not Remender, hopefully not Hickman, but probably Hickman.
What happened with Havok was Remender's story. Hickman's been responsible for the storyline in which the Multiverse is decaying and all the universes are smashing into each other and only genocide can save us, so the heroes must annihilate entire sentient worlds until finally they gave up under the weight of the horror and decided to let their world crash into another world and annihilate both universes because annihilating just that universe was too emotionally difficult.
Then villains went "F*ck that noise" and took up the mantle of destroying universes to protect the 616, and now there are only two dozen universes left in the entire Multiverse and they're going to die, and then the Ultimate and 616 universe are going to die, and all the universes will turn into tang to set the stage for for Secret War.
And people still complain about Civil War. Avengers got really stupid after Bendis left to write X-Men.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.In fairness they didn't destroy a populated world until the totally-not-justice-league world. And they couldn't even bring themselves to do that so Namor had to. And then they were like how dare you stop two universes from dying you prick so he started his own club with blackjack and hookers.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Man that would be too good to be true. Whedon for the snark and wit, Marcus and Mc Feely for the... well, feels.
