Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They haven't said the actor's name directly yet, probably to avoid a Late-Arrival Spoiler, but it's already been confirmed several times that the Winter Soldier is definitely going to be in it.

Marvel hasn't given an official press release of the cast but Anthony Russo
said Winter Soldier is absolutely in the film.
The Thor movies remain my favorite out of the MCU as far as like the main series goes. Granted, it could be a complete bastardization of the comics but I wouldn't know. I went in to the first one with low expectations, only watching it because it was on Netflix and I knew I'd have to at some point and I fell in love with it.
I don't know what it is about em. I just find both movies charming in this weird little way. Needs More Love imo.

I...I was about to say they never even kissed, but that's not actually true. But there really is nothing there to indicate romance...at all.

Oh God! Natural light! The main ting I'm hoping for in Civil War is that they, for the love of everything right in the world, DON'T turn Iron Man into a borderline Complete Monster like they did in the comic's take.

Well, you know how shippers are. (Who needs evidence? Just look at what this wiki considers to be Ho Yay!)

Yeah, come on. It was beyond obvious what their relationship was and wasn't. Friendship yes.
Besides, everyone's on the Bruce x Nat train these days.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI did think Steve and Natasha had enough natural chemistry for a proper romantic relationship to develop far, far down the line if either one was interested enough in seriousness. Plus he seemed to enjoy that kiss a lot more than he wanted to. But yeah, the movie made it abundantly clear they weren't like that at all.
Personally I'd be really happy if they went the Steve/Bucky route, since they have what I consider a legitimate case for Ho Yay, Steve/Peggy was doomed from the getgo (
) and it's now too late for Steve/Sharon without ruining the rest of the movie in the process. But I don't think Marvel's going to touch that with a ten-foot pole.

Well, there has been a lack of LGBT representation, and if there was any, I must have missed it...
Not only that, but they deliberately avoided her sexuality knowing she was doomed.
There's also that one prisoner in the Mandarin one-shot. Maybe?
I'd be OK with just Bucky being gay/bi and Steve being straight, especially if they're planning to do the Death of Captain America plot. Civil War is already stuffed as it is and doesn't need a love story on top, especially if it ends with what could be mistaken for Bury Your Gays. You could even make a decent case for the Anti Goggles crowd that Bucky hasn't been shown in any serious relationships yet and arguably has a lot more in common with Arnie Roth who was gay than Ultimates!Bucky. Also, it might be less likely to be Banned in China, considering how important the Chinese market is to Marvel these days.

I do remember actually reading that in an interview with Jed Whedon about the show. I'll see about tracking it down.
Isn't it sad that my favourite canon pairing of the MCU is Steve/Peggy by far? The one pairing which can never be!
I expect that Ultron will be a financial success, but if it will be a critical too naturally depends on the movie. Ant-man will struggle more, but if the movie is decent or even good, I am not worried about the Box office either.
If they turned around and made Cap/Widow a romantic thing I will be most aggrieved, as the fact that Steve and Nat were the leads, with prominent chemistry that wasn't at all romantic, was one of my favorite things about the characterization in that movie.
But since I don't think they will...
Sebastian Stan won't be in. Civil War will be guest starring the Winter Soldier as himself.

It's my favorite pairing, too, by far. Agent Carter has only made me ship Steggy harder.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

My expectation for Ant-Man is it'll be a solid if not necessarily remarkable entree. I'm confident it will at least be better than Iron Man 2 (despite both having problems with Troubled Production I feel like Marvel has their shit together better this time around) and Thor 2 (I think the premise is more interesting but that's just me since I've never been a big fan of movie Thor).
