Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I... am calm? I really don't think it was as self-evident that he was joking as he thinks. That's why we have potholes to Humor Mode, people.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I actually wonder now if Infinity War won't contain something similar to the Inhumanity plot from Infinity. Maybe a bunch of Terrigen gas is released across the globe somehow.
Inhumans is set to come out after both Infinity Wars now so I'm not so sure. I think the theory that it might be shifted from end of Phase 3 to beginning of Phase 4 makes a lot more sense.

From personal experience anytime I see someone use the word "objectively" in response to an opinion-based rankings list like that, trying to sound as smug as possible is the whole point. You don't have to find it funny, but that is the essence of the joke. Unless they're spectacularly poor Trolls, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Thank you, Alley Oop. You understood my posts.
I'm actually surprised that my attempts to express confidence that someone could get a joke would be seen as condescension. My bad. As God is my witness, I'll never overestimate again!
That was me being condescending, which I actually don't like doing.
Seriously though, I don't say this often, but lighten up. I'm not going to be apologetic for cracking a joke every now and then. Nor am I going to lose all trace of subtlety when I make a joke.

A description of the Hulkbuster fight
. It's Scarlet Witch's doing, as we thought.
Why is that always the first question that comes up in discussions of newer characters? Comic book movies based on specific storylines are so rare that there's only two of them and the second hasn't even come out yet!
Insofar as a Kamala movie isn't going to happen for at least half a decade, there's plenty of time for her to build up a rouges gallery, and if she can't there's no shame in borrowing from someone else's.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()

Kamala Khan vs the Thomas Edison clone with a bird head. Plus origin story. Pure hollywood.

Ironman 1 is not hugely based on a single story either, as far I can tell. Just the first part, which is his origins story re purposed to Afghanistan. Actually, I believe Ironman 3 is one movie that is a more direct adaptation of an story arc. Yes, it changed a lot of thing and add the whole "Mandarin" thing, but the basic plot is the same as Extremis, I believe.
Anyway, only Captain America have adapted a story directly, so far. And even Winter Soldier changed a lot of things as well.

I could see Kamala working as a good Audience Surrogate for The Inhumans. She already kinda did in an issue.
Wack'd - I'm asking the question because when people say "I really want to see a story about such-and-such character", having some idea of what kind of story they'd like to see gives a sense of what would make the movie interesting.
When people are talking about the next Captain America or Thor movie, it's all about "oh, I want to see something related to [x] plotline" or "I hope [y] villain shows up, that would make a great conflict!". For the Black Panther movie, it's somewhat similar. The existing movies aren't anything like direct adaptations, but they seem to take some characters and plot concepts and themes from existing arcs (usually from multiple arcs rather than a single one).
When people are talking about Captain Marvel or Kamala, though, there's a lot of commentary on why the character is cool, but little sense of what kind of story or plot or interaction with the antagonists would make a movie compelling. I'm interested in what people would like to see the character doing. And particularly in the case of Kamala, she comes across as an interesting character from what people are saying, but I haven't heard anyone mention any arcs or conflicts that you could build an action movie around, so I'm interested in what people would like to see.

BIRD. HEAD. THOMAS. EDISON. CLONE.
Who is a giant millennial basher.
Its pretty much great.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
They say that because they like the character, not necessarely because they like a specific plotline. Take Hulk, for example. A lot of people wants a new Hulk movie, but not as many actually have an idea to what said movie would be. Sure, suggestions are thrown around, sometimes, but it is mostly about being a movie with the Hulk than anything else.
About Captain Marvel and Kamala. Captain Marvel is mostly a team player nowadays, and her most iconic stories are impossible in the MCU because they don't have the rights to Rogue or Mystiquenote . Kamala Khan is far too recent to actually have an iconic storyline.

Step by Step. I first want a Captain Marvel Movie. And then, after they have established her, we can talk about Miss Marvel. (though I like the idea of the Stinger at the end of the Captain Marvel Movie).
As far as "one which story should it be based" question goes, I don't see any harm in it. It is less about adapting a specific story and more about adapting ideas from specific stories. Most of the movies did this so far, including the Iron Man trilogy. They just shuffled stuff around a lot, so much, that the original inspiration wasn't recognizable anymore.
And yes Civil War had a lot of problems but it is nevertheless a great concept if you pull it off right. I am still hoping that it won't be just a movie event, but influence all the TV shows, too, including the Netflix ones (which are hopefully up and running until then).

I, too, think Kamala is awesome and adorable. We need more people like that in the MCU.
