Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It was the only film that lived up to the hype for me out of all the well-received hero films that came out this year. Found GOTG a little disappointing, and DOFP was still very good but not something I'd rewatch like I would with TWS.
You think "HYDRA's been inside SHIELD all along!" isn't a cheap retcon? Maybe if they'd actually foreshadowed it at all even the tiniest bit before that movie.
It's really not that big a deal, though. I don't hate the movie or anything, I just don't think the plot is the best thing ever. I don't understand why it always gets called the greatest Marvel movie of all time. What did if have to offer that other Marvel movies didn't? What makes it so especially good?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.![]()
Good action, good characterization for both Cap and Black Widow, a good opening scene introducing the Falcon, the Falcon in general, Robert Redford as a villain, etc.
AND YES, a good plot. Best phase 2 movie, barring Age of Ultron, which isn't out yet, and maybe even then.

While I enjoy Got G more, I think Winter Soldier deserves the title as best Marvel movie of all time. What it had to offer? Well, it managed what most comic book adaptation fail to do, touching a theme which is relevant for us and discussing it in a very mature manner. On top of this it had two main characters whose personalities played off each other perfectly (and as little bonus, one was female and it didn't end in a romance). The action scenes were also pretty awesome, especially the fight in the elevator and on the bridge. And it had one of the game changing endings after which nothing will be the same again.
I found this on RDJ's twitter feed... I REALLY want to know the context, but at the same time I kinda don't because it's better that way.

Winter Soldier is basically Marvel's equivalent to The Dark Knight. It's adored for being very mature, very well-written, superbly acted, serious and down-to-earth. At the same time it's also very fun and doesn't shy away from its comic roots (such as The Falcon's flying shenanigans and Batroc the Leaper, as well as most action scenes).
So everyone was pleased with it, because it managed to be very mature without losing the fun that the MCU has.
To use a traditional Brazilian saying, it pleased both Greeks and Trojans.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."
Here's the context
. It's actually a fake fan-made cover based on the Superdickery Superman covers. Here's another pair
.
And here's something crazier that actually is from a Captain America comic
◊.

That's a pretty good explanation, actually. It was the movie that had the best balance of silliness and seriousness.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Having just watched Winter Soldier for the first time a few nights ago, I thought it was good for the same reasons Guardians was good. It was a proper standalone film in a bigger universe that didn't feel the need to serve as pure buildup for Ultron or something else. Rather, it was continuing the story from the first Cap film and didn't worry too much about how it was going to affect the larger story - but instead focused on how it affected Cap. It was just as good as a standalone superhero film as it was a continuation of the MCU in general.
There was also subtle foreshadowing all the way back to Iron Man 2 with the Senator guy from Hydra who was trying to get the Iron Man suits from Stark, which is a lot better than annoying in your face foreshadowing.
"A king has no friends. Only subjects and enemies."
I think that was more of Cap 2 building off previously established plot points than foreshadowing. I seriously doubt the writers had planned that far ahead when they wrote Iron Man 2.
Based on this interview
, the HYDRA twist was first thought up around the time of First Avenger and then put into planning the day of the Central Park shoot of The Avengers.
Re: Web shooters from last page
I guess I've just had an problem with a high school student able to synthesize material in enough quantities to be a viable crime fighting tool when the comics are more or less grounded in reality technologically speaking in the civilian market. He doesn't even go about selling the formula
Shooting the webs out of his wrists would be no weirder than any mutant and their powers or the Fantastic Four and their powers.
Because then it might become useful. I occasionally suspect that Reed Richards Is Useless is a prerequesite for any inventor in the Marvelverse.
Although I think I remember that he needed time to change the formula, and he needed the money now.
