Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's nonsense.
You couldn't fit the Model 42 gauntlet on a rabbit. Their paws are too tiny.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIsn't it the point of a relationship that you talk to each other if you have problems and share it with your partner? Tony's trust issues shouldn't include Pepper, and if they do, the only word for the relationship is dysfunctional. Which bothers me. Because I liked how they portrayed it in "The Avengers"...in fact, I never loved Pepper as much as in this single scene (can't we get Whedon as "consultant on writing female characters properly" for every script, just in case?).
And, btw, what is the point of a fake-out scene if they don't even take out the time that Tony can grief properly? The scene is so rushed, I don't even have time to feel for him. It's like he is immediately back to business and not as broken up as he should be.
BTW: The scene with the "five seconds in armour" was just wrong on so many levels, and not only because I don't think that it is empowering. I don't even think that Pepper needs any empowering at all, she is the CEO of a giant company, overly competent and has rescued Tony multiple times already. But that aside: How does this even work? Tony has those sensors under his skin to call the armour, shouldn't Pepper need those too in order for it to attach itself properly to her? And wouldn't it have been way easier if Tony had carried out both woman in his armour? Nothing about this scene made sense (even though the destruction of Tony's home is in itself pretty awesome).

He attacks Killian in a rage. That was his reaction. He even behaves more recklessly than usual, which says something.
"Isn't it the point of a relationship that you talk to each other if you have problems and share it with your partner?"
Yes and he was so messed up by what happened in New York that he's having trouble talking to her about it because even talking about it gives him anxieties. I remember that he tries at one point and trips all over himself.
"Tony has those sensors under his skin to call the armour, shouldn't Pepper need those too in order for it to attach itself properly to her? And wouldn't it have been way easier if Tony had carried out both woman in his armour?"
The sensors were homing beacons which let the suit find him even miles away. Its just an upgrade of the bracelt he wore for the Mark 7 in Avengers. At short range he was able to point and the in-suit AI or guidance was able to figure out what to do.
And the point of the scene is that Tony was putting himself in danger to protect Pepper more effectively because that's what he was trying to get at when he failed to be able to speak to her. Its more important to him to make sure that she's safe than that he's safe.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI hated how Pepper's reaction to Tony having a panic attack was "Fuck you, and your robot, I'm sleepin' somewhere else." Super supportive, Pep.
My various fanfics.
I didn't much care for Pepper's arc in Iron Man 3 either, but that is a massive and inaccurate oversimplification.
Her leaving was less "I'm not willing to support you" and more "I don't want to risk getting manhandled a SECOND TIME by the walking super-weapon you decided to link to your vital signs".
Staying with Tony in that state, as far as she knew, was potentially a genuine threat to her well-being, and you can't blame her for not wanting to stick around.

I actually don't think Whedon is all that great at writing female characters. Better than a lot of other writers, sure, but that's more of a statement about how poorly they tend to be written in general. I mean props to him for making Black Widow useful in an organic way and more interesting than she was in Iron Man 2, but her personality was still pretty underwhelming, and so was Maria Hill. She didn't feel like a genuinely compelling character to me until The Winter Soldier.

Iron Man 3 is phenomenal, IMO.
Meet me in the pit.
A lot of people that are sick of Whedon seem to think that Age of Ultron will be terrible, mostly because he'll probably write Scarlet Witch terribly.
Also, they seem to be against all evidence of Bruce/Natasha romance in the movie.

I am a little worried about Scarlet Witch's characterization though. The teaser in The Winter Soldier already suggested River 2.0. Still think Avengers 2 will be a good movie, but whether it will be anything more than another 2 hours of mindless fun is another question.
I can understand acknowledging Bruce/Natasha and not liking it for being nonsensical/what have you. But denying it altogether? Seems pretty delusional.
I liked when Harley apologizes for pushing Stark's New York button.
Harley: I'm so sorry!
Tony Stark: Are you?!
Harley: *guilty smile*
And that was after he threw a snowball at the kid, too.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!@Son: Dude, if a suit of power armour grabbed me in bed in the middle of the night, I wouldn't keep sleeping there.
I also liked Iron Man 3, by the way.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectMy biggest fear with Avengers 2 is it might allow Whedon to indulge into some of his worst excesses. The first movie, I think, benefitted from the studio aparently reigning him a bit, which a lot of actually good creators need to temper them lest their own creative demons overwhelm them. But here, he's a proved commodity, and he might get more carte blanche, which in some cases is not an actual good thing.
Ah Spring, when a Marvel fan's joy turns to worry.

Such as? One of the problems I had with Avengers was that it got a little self-masturbatory with the humor. Some of the jokes were scene-ruiningly bad, like Black Widow grabbed the Idiot Ball for a second with "that's not a party".
^^ Well, it would be accurate.
Though it'd also be like saying "water is wet".

Also, this was the worst use of Pepper in the movies. Like, Gwenyth Paltrow talked about the role being a great performance for women or whatever, and she could have been replaced with a fucking rabbit.
