Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I always loved the Tony-Gamora sex scene. Doesn't matter if it's on the battlefield or in the bedroom: Gamora will kill you if you're not careful.

....Granted, they seemed to have toned Gamora's strength down in the MCU, but at the same time I can't see MCU!Gamora just having sex like that.

Has there ever been an issue in the comics where a Terran tried to have a "movie night" with the rest of the Guardians?

I remember reading that Tony Stark issue Lord of Lore, ah, good times.

I've always enjoyed Bendis' humour.

Gunn clarifies the new female Guardian he mentioned is NOT Captain Marvel and that the Venom symbiotes will not appear despite the deal with Sony.

Damn I was hoping for Venom Rocket.

That still leaves Mantis and Phyla-Vell, right? Or does the latter count as "Captain Marvel" more than she does "Quasar?"

Ruled out: Gladiator of the Shi'ar Empire, Ronan the Accuser, Bug, Rom: Spaceknight, Nova aka Richard Rider, Venom, Captain Marvel.

Which leaves: Angela, Cosmo, Jack Flag, Mantis, Phyla-Vell, Moondragon, Major Victory, and Adam Warlock. More if you're counting people from the future team.

[up][up] I shouldn't think so. She was Captain Marvel only very briefly.

Unrelated but I had the idea that if they do use Phyla-Vell she could be an agent of the Kree under the codename of Matyr because given up for dead if she gets caught. But making that her portrayal probably steps on Gamora's toes.

The Wikipedia article mentions that Moondragon is openly bisexual, so I want her. Also her design looks pretty cool.

She has also apparently used the pseudonym "Madame Mac Evil" so yeah. It better be her.

[up][up][up][up]She was only Captain Marvel for about 10 seconds so yeah if they use her I imagine it will be as Quasar.

[up][up]Since Mar-Vell is her dad it'd be interesting if they could use her and then used it to drop a few easter eggs for the Captain Marvel movie.

Well, Venom might turn up later....there is no need to rush and needs some planning, it's not something you have to throw in on at a minutes notice. And Captain Marvel deserves her own story, though there is crossover potential for later.

I actually foresee a symbiote appearing next time we see the collectors house.

Every time I see Tony's face in that scene, I keep thinking "near-death by snu-snu". [lol]

@ comicwriter: Damn, I was hoping for Agent Venom. And about Captain Marvel not showing up in GOTG 2, yeah it makes sense. Her movie's not showing up until 2-3 years from now. tongue

Would the Kree qualify for 100% dick?

I don't closely follow the comics, but it seems like in print or on the screen their primary identifying trait is "bag of dicks".

99.99% dick in the comics, pretty much 100 in the movies so far.

Well, on further thought there was one on-screen Kree that wasn't a dick during their airtime: the corpse from AoS at the Guest House. tongue

@ "Is the Iron man Trilogy bad" question, I can't watch the vid but I would say that 2 out of 3 isn't bad.
