Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Why I never post comic panels/pages with Rhodes: He doesn't show up in any of the books I read, focus on or like with his one appearance thus far being "Hey, I'm Carol Danvers boyfriend since some time back despite this having never been shown in the pages before or even hinted at since she needs to have a boyfriend. Oh, now I'm sad since she's leaving for space and I only got about 1 page with her before I disappear from the story forever."

Three black guys makes the MCU pretty stupidly white. Where are the Hispanic, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, multi-racial people?
This is why I'm completely okay if they want to race bend some of the more important superheroes.
If the white super heroes become too important to kill off then you're left with their minority sidekicks for some cheap drama.
Anyways I'd rather keep War Machine around. Once Robert Downey Jr. leaves we'll need someone to take his place.

Yeah, I always thought Rhodey/Carol's relationship came out of nowhere so it baffles me that so many people ship it hardcore and treat it like it's their Carol OTP. Really the only thing the two share in common is work for the military. It's a severe case of Pair the Spares.
The Asian people are in Ao S and I suspect we will see much more of them in context with the Inhumans.
And I honestly wanted to know what is so great about War Machine from someone who likes the character. Perhaps there is something I am missing, a storyline which is worth exploring, perhaps a particular storyline from the comics which is popular? Just because I don't see how his story can be developed further it doesn't mean that there aren't any options I am simply not aware off.
Rhodey/War Machine/Iron Patriot is interesting because he's tied to the government a lot more than anybody now that SHIELD is mostly gone.
This has been mentioned already but I guess that didn't count for some reason.
But yeah, in Iron Man 3 there was a lot of good material about Rhodey chafing a bit at the hierarchy. He preferred War Machine but the higher ups rebranded him for the PR.
Also, if he replaces Iron Man there's a lot of good material that can be built on that: not only having to replace Tony and second-guessing what would Iron Man do and all that but also if he's going to be Iron Man instead of the Iron War Machine Patriot, it probably entails stepping away from the chain of command so that would be a big change for him too.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers
x4 Does this mean Rhodey is a shiny Tony Stark?
edited 7th Mar '15 2:01:58 PM by spashthebandragon
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Besides the points Bocaj made, there's also the general appeal of an army guy in a badass suit of armor. He doesn't have the intellectual know-how of Stark, but Stark doesn't have the giant minigun.
Besides that, there's also the fact that, if they decide to go into Avengers West Coast, it would be good to keep War Machine around.
RE: Rhodey:
Er, why would they kill off Rhodey? Isn't he considered a New Avenger? Which they'll inevitably need for the next Avengers movie since it looks like the original team will split after dealing with Ultron?
And just because they don't mention him prominently doesn't mean he's getting the ax, does it? Look at WS, they barely acknowledged Maria Hill, but she turned out ok.
Speaking of New Avengers...
The MCU!Spider-Man movie will have The Stinger be about Director Coulson wanting to talk to Peter about the "New Avengers Initiative" a la how Iron Man 1 had Fury wanting to talk to Tony about "The Avengers Initiative".
EDIT: Anyone hoping/praying that Rhodey will go back to being War Machine in AOU?

If Rhodey lives, I'll be the first to admit to panicking over nothing. But the fact that no one's really talked about his role worries me.
As for characters dying...while I of course prefer characters not to die, I'm not entirely against the idea if it fits the scenario - Ultron is the Big Bad of an Avengers movie, and combined with the character's history, is going to be built up as a big threat - such a threat makes it seem like someone ought to die stopping him. That said, there are other ways to build villain cred, and some good ones are to have him A) thrash the good guys in a fight, and B) villainous deeds on a larger, grander scale than ever seen before. From what I can tell, they're going for both, so hopefully, they don't need to do C) kill off a prominent supporting character. I guess we'll just have to wait.
Oh God! Natural light!I am not saying that Rhoday HAS to die...I am just saying that he would be the logical choice if they decide to kill off one of the actual heroes.
But, hey, I came up with a reason why nobody of the heroes will die this time around: Civil War! They'll want as many heroes as possible involved in this one.
New Avengers roster:
- Spider-Man
- Doctor Strange
- Ant-Man (Scott Lang)
- War Machine or Black Panther
- Luke Cage
- Iron Fist (he and Cage can be what connects their Netflix shows to the MCU.)
Ok, I'm gonna be straight here. All this talk about how Rhodes might not make it is giving me the creeps.
Well, what if he ends up like Happy Hogan in IM 3? Critically injured but still alive? Huh? Anyone up for that?

Seems like the only other Marvel superhero toy that was revealed with the Square Enix Iron Man and Hulkbuster Armor was a statue of the Wasp based on the comics.

For some reason I have already an idea in my mind how the run of some of the characters will end....
Thor will simply go to Asgard Loki will turn into a child Tony will simply retire from being Iron Man because he is getting to old for it, but he will still be around tinkering (either for real or off-screen). Since Bruce is indestructible, he will be around for a long, long time...but if they ever decide to write him out, they either have to get rid of the hulk or turn him into the hulk permanently (and the latter option would be very depressing). For Steve a heroic dead might seem the logical direction, but I somehow feel that he will get at a point at which he decides that he doesn't want to be a soldier anymore. Nick Fury will go down in a truly heroic spectacular fashion...and then the suggestion lingers that he might have survived after all, because there will always be a Nick Fury in the shadows.

Damn I really wanna see this in the movie now. Or imagine overprotective dad Drax trying to vet his daughter's love interest.
